The announcement came at 1:20 p.m. April 20 in front of parents, reporters and photog raphers, escorts, and Rose Festi val officials. Immediately Trudy was surrounded with questions about future plans, and pho tographers shouting “look this way” and “over here Trudy.” Comments such as “She cer tainly is a beautiful girl,” and “She is one of the most poised girls I have seen,” were ex- pressed by members of the press. Queen Julia West, the 1966 princess, arrived to give Trudy a congratulatory hug, then posed with the new princess for the cam eras. Thursday evening friends sur prised Trudy with a party. They presented her with a cake topped with a large edible rose. She was then taken to dinner at the Hill Villa Restaurant. Trudy’s Friday activities started at 7:45 a.m. when she was taken to KGW tele vision station for an inter view with R. H. Peck and Konnie Worth for “Tele scope” and another inter view with Jim Fenwick for KGW radio. During the course of the day Princess Trudy had her picture taken at three photographic-stu dios and went to Meier and Frank’s for her wardrobe. “The clothes are really neat,” Trudy commented. She contin ued, “All of the princesses get a three-piece knit suit and a pants and sweater outfit from Jantzen. .We also get a dress and coat from Pendleton and a raincoat and shoes to wear with each outfit.” The formals to be worn the night of the coronation are floor length bell-shaped, pastel yellow. “They’re just beautiful,” Trudy added. Her festival activities will slow down until the entire court has been selected. The Rose Fes tival Coronation will be June 5 at the Memorial Coliseum. Asked about het family’s re action to this honor, Trudy said, “My father couldn’t talk.” She also received telephone calls from her sisters who live out of the state. “I received lots of flowers from thoughtful people,” ex claimed Trudy. Not being able to answer the telephone or open any mail are the restrictions on the princesses. This is to protect the girls from pranksters.
