Three enter presidency race Experiences in organizing told
by candidates for vice-president
What experience have you had
in organizing activities?
Douglas Harrower
Robert Heldfond
Neil Jacobson
Do you want this office for
your personal advancement or
for that of the school?
I am running for Student Body
President because I believe that
I can serve the school as well as
educate and advance myself as
a person. Through this office I
can learn how to work with oth
ers as well as help work for the
improvement of the school.
—Doug Harrower
Obviously any candidate for
this office has both goals in
mind while running. Yet, the
presidency is something more, it
is not an empty honor, nor is it
a nomination for “status symbol
of the year”. For me, it is an op
portunity to express my ideas,
and have them enacted.
—Bob Heldfond
Anyone who answers
question honestly must say that
he wants it for both reasons^ One
of my main reasons is that-1 hon
estly feel that I can improve stu
dent government by doing all I
can to get more students of all
classes involved and interested
in student government.
—Neil Jacobsen
Plans 'if elected’
I have belonged to Zanika
Horizon Club since my freshman
year. Each person helps organize
the activities, but especially the
officers. I was secretary and
Vice-President my frosh and
sophomore years respectively. I
also participate in out-of-school
activities.
—Linda Guess
I have .experienced organizing
a booth for the carnival. I have
also helped in organizing various
activities for the Russian Club.
—Alice Rooney
As sophomore class Vice-Pres
ident I had to organize all com
mittees for our booth in the car
nival, many sales and the UGN
car wash. For Girls’ League, the
G.L. Handbook in 1965 and the
Birthday card project in 1967.
For the Latin Club, the annual
dinner and carnival booth in
1966.

Secretarial hopefuls explain qualifications
What are your major qualifi
cations for this office?
Last year I held the position
of secretary of Willamette Youth
Association. I have also shown
an interest in the school through
participation in General Council
and interest clubs. As a member
of executive council the secre
tary should know about the in
terests and activities of the stu
dent body.
—Patti Field
An interest in student govern
ment and a desire to participate
in it are my major qualifications
for this office. I have worked
with Girls’ League and have
told by prospects
for service post
Patricia Field
learned from it how to work and
cooperate with others. It would
try to add fresh ideas and bring
new activities to the council.
—Susan Hatchard
Having been different officers
in interest clubs and working on
committees for the Junior Prom
and National Honor Society has
made me aware of the responsi
bilities and necessary planning
behind the scehes planning in
volved in any successful organi
zation. The ability to work well
with people is also an asset I be
lieve I possess. —Karen Stone

What are your major qualifi
cations for the office?
Grant has a definite problem
in its inability to be kept clean.
The litter inside and around the
school campus are examples of
this problem. It is up to Grant
students to see that their campus
is an example of the great image
Grant has.
—Gail Harrower
Karen Stone
I am interested in many school
activities, and I have held offices
in. the German club and the
United Sounds Folksingers’ club,
of which I am a charter member.
I would enjoy serving the stu
dent body as Service Representa
tive.
—Martha McCready
Do you believe that the poten
tial of this office has been fully
reached in the past?
No, I don’t. There is great po
tential tied into this office, A
good Athletic Rep. not only in
forms the student body of ath
letic activities but also inspires
students to take an active role in
them I take great pride in Grant.
I would like to give others the
same feeling.
—Karsten Musaeus
