DEAN INGRAM 14 • oregoncoastTODAY.com • facebook.com/oregoncoasttoday • October 25, 2019 THE MAIN ATTRACTION Any business analysts busy writing yet more obituaries for Main Street America might want to take a break from their doom and gloom to pay a visit to a place where small-scale retail is thriving — the annual Trick or Treat Street at Oregon Coast Aquarium. Taking place from 6 to 8 pm this Saturday, Oct. 26, the event provides a safe and dry environment for children 12 and under to go trick or treating, collecting candy from a host of mock storefronts arranged in a looping street configuration. Storefronts include offerings from Fred Meyer, Lincoln County Animal Shelter, Mini Pet Mart, JC Market, Masonic Lodge, Shangri-La, Food Fair/ US Market, Oregon Parks and Recreation, Ocean Tire Factory, 4-H Afterschool Program, Anchor Point Archery Club, First Interstate Bank, Grocery Outlet, Walmart and Lincoln Community Correction. Tick or Treat Street is co-hosted by the OSU Extension 4-H Youth Development Program and is a benefit for Food Share of Lincoln County, with admission by donation of two cans of food or pet food. Nancy Mitchell, executive director for Food Share of Lincoln County, said the event brings a welcome boost to the organization’s shelf-stable food supply, especially following the summer months when food donations tend to fall flat. “For those in our community continually facing increased living expenses, access to a food program can allow individuals to free up household income to pay their utility bill, auto insurance, or for much needed medicine,” she said. “Trick or Treat Street is a prime example of how community-led efforts help families and individuals stay afloat.” The aquarium will close at 4 pm on Saturday in preparation for Trick or Treat Street and re-open at 6 pm. Normal winter hours will resume on October 27, opening at 10 am and closing at 5 pm. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is located at 2820 SE Ferry Slip Road.
