lively Take a spin in Lincoln City C hinook Winds Casino Resort will give give Oregon Coast trivia buffs the chance to vie for TV stardom when it hosts the “Wheel of Fortune” Wheelmobile this weekend. The Wheelmobile gives “Wheel of Fortune” fans the opportunity to show off their personality and puzzle- solving skills and be evaluated to move forward in the contestant audition process. “Every year, ‘Wheel of Fortune’ receives over 1 million inquiries from viewers who want to be contestants,” said Executive Producer Harry Friedman. “The Wheelmobile was created to give people all over the country an opportunity to realize that dream.” In fact, most contestants who appear on “Wheel of Fortune” are discovered at Wheelmobile events in their hometowns. Would-be contestants will need to fill out an application for the chance to have their name drawn at random to tryout on stage. Everyone who participates on stage will receive a prize. Those who submit an application and are not called up on stage can still be selected at random to be invited to a future final round of auditions when the show’s contestant producers return to the area. The open auditions will take place at noon, 1:30 and 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15, at the Chinook Winds Casino Resort. The event will be held inside the Chinook Winds Showroom and the applications to audition will be distributed in the tented outdoor space located adjacent to the showroom. Sun sets on Summer Celebration Ellen Saunders Newport’s Nye Beach Summer Celebration will hold its grand finale this Saturday, Sept. 14, on the outdoor theater stage at Café Mundo, with Portland musician Ellen Saunders joining the lineup. Saunders is facilitator of the Columbia River Flute Circle and teaches world flutes and guitar at her studio west of Portland. She will perform alongside the Thunder & Lightness World Beat Ensemble, featuring Terry Filer on the Native American flutes, and Chandler Davis of the Newport Drum Circle. Filer is an enrolled member of the Osage Nation, teaches Native American flute and facilitates flute and drum circles in McMinnville, and performs frequently 22 • oregoncoastTODAY.com • facebook.com/oregoncoasttoday • September 13, 2019 throughout Oregon, both solo and with her own Sisters of the Osage flute ensemble. Thunder & Lightness has been presenting high-energy multicultural traditional and indigenous rhythm and song in the Newport area for more than a decade. The event will run from noon to 3 pm, rain or shine, at Café Mundo, 209 NW Coast Street. The all-ages community event, has an atmosphere that has been likened to that of a big neighborhood block party. Dancing is encouraged and light percussion is available for those who want to join in. Fund-raising fashion Tickets are now on sale for a fund-raising fashion show and lunch, set to take place on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Lincoln City Community Center. Running from 2 to 4 pm, the fun event will showcase a range of fabulous outfits, accompanied by lunch, including salad and dessert for $10. Proceeds benefit the Christmas basket program, which delivers gifts to needy families in the Lincoln City area. Only 40 seats are available. To reserve a spot, call Loene at 541-264-0348.
