spotlight
Th e Yaquina Art Association Pedestal
Spotlight Show, running through Friday
Sept. 6, features the glass work of Mary
Young.
Young has been creating fused glass
art for 12 years, enjoying the constant
surprises and playing with color. Her
interest in glass started with her father,
who bought a kiln to experiment with
years ago, and it took off from there.
Young grew up in Seattle and lived in
Portland before moving to the Oregon
Coast and has lived in Newport for 13
years. She has been a member of the
Yaquina Art Association since 2007.
Th e Yaquina Art Association Gallery
is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW
Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11
am to 5 pm every day. After Labor Day,
hours are 11 am to 4 pm.

11 am to 3 pm: Children’s Art Day with
Rock Painting
As part of the annual Toledo Art Walk
on Labor Day Weekend, the Toledo Art
Guild will host a two-day art sale on
Saturday and Sunday, Aug 31. and. Sept. 1.
During the sale, guild members will
demonstrate art techniques every hour on
the hour from 11 am to 3 pm on both days.
Artwork from eight guild members will
be on off er, including felting and mixed
media by Sandy Blackman, watercolor and
mixed media by Tish Epperson, fused glass
by Alice Haga, fi ne art photography by
Sylvia Hosie, printing and mixed media by
Cynthia Jacobi, shell art by Valerie Jacobi,
mixed media by Jennifer Norman and
jewelry by Jennifer Rose.
A guild members table will include work
by additional member artists.
Th roughout the event, guild artists
will give free demonstrations on a variety
of techniques such as linoleum printing,
copper tile embossing and mixed media. At
each demonstration participants can make
an item to take home.
Artist talks will feature the work of local
artists Sam Briseno and Scott Blackman,
and will also include a discussion on how to
publish a successful art book.
Sunday’s demonstration will be devoted
to children (and the young at heart) with
all-day creative rock painting. All supplies
are included.

Th e Toledo Art Guild was formed in
2010 by a group of local artists from the
Toledo area encompassing all forms of
artistic expression and has expanded to
include 40 members from all over Lincoln
County.
Th e sale will run from 10 am to 5 pm at
the Toledo Union Hall, 138 N. 1st Street.
GUILDY PLEASURES
Th e Yachats Arts Guild will be showing and selling some of their best work at the group’s
annual fall show, opening Saturday, Aug. 31 and continuing through Monday, Sept. 2.
Th e guild will have more than 20 framed art items in the exhibit, including watercolor, oil,
acrylic, mosaics and stained glass, vintage collage, jewelry and photography. Also available will be
cards, prints and ceramic tiles of the original art.
Guild member art is also display at the Yachats Public Library, in local galleries, restaurants,
book stores and gift shops.
Th e show will be viewable from 10 am to 4 pm each day at the Yachats Commons, located at
