The clash with the soldiers held off the mob while the authorities man aged to slip the negro away te a place of safety. Wbtlo the mob. the ring leaders of which carried a rope, was attempting to get Into the oourt house to get Lockett, a Jury found him guilty of first degree murder aad a minute or two later the negro was sentenced to die In the electric chair March 11 Lexington and all of Fayette county were placed under martial law by Brigadier-General F.
