Appeal Made By CARE for Aid To Cent.-So. Europe As the severe winter storms continue to lash central and south ern Europe, spreading disaster to thousands of families. CARE, the foreign relief agency, through its CARE mission chiefs is mobilizing aid to the storm victims in Italy, Greece and the Berlin area. To help spur nationality groups in the Pacific Northwest area for sending aid to the storm-stricken areas, three chairman have been named in Seattle by the North west CARE office. They are FRANK A. Ursino. CARE Aid for Italy. Mrs Cirry Kyreacos. Greece, and Consul Werner E. Op- pel. Berlin. CARE is appealing to all Pa cific Northwesteners to assist in sending emergency aid to the stricken areas. Cabled reports from the mission chiefs indicate large areas isolated and imme diate need for food and blankets. Increasing importance as life saving packages are the $1 CARE Surplus Food Crusade packages containing 22 pounds of cheese, butter and dry milk, which can be sent all storm areas, includ ing the refugees and other needy in Western Germany. Designated food packages for $6.95 and $10. blankets and knitting wool for $10 and wool suiting for $13.50 may be sent specified friends and rela tives in Italy, Greece and Berlin. Contributions should lx* sent the Northwest CARE office, Fred erick and Nelson, Seattle. Oregon Laws Help Automobile Buyers While many of the nation’s car buyers are being gouged out of millions of dollars annually by “gyp" auto financing contracts, Oregon motorists are fortunate in that this state is one of only eight states that have laws relating spe cifically to motor vehicle financ ing. according to the AAA. Of the eight states, the ntost complete laws are found in dae- gon, California, Michigan. Nevami Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Laws in these states require licensing, filing of complaints, full disclosure of terms, limitations on time charges, penalties and other features designed to protect the buyer. The other tw-o states, Colo- rado and Maine, have similar laXvs but lack the limitation on time charges. States which lack adequate auto finance regulations are inviting the gyp dealer to flourish at the expense of the motorist, the AAA declares. The AAA estimates that $240,000,000 is being gouged from auto buyers annually. Mosquito Campaign To Get Underway February 28-March I The 1956 cdtnpaign against mosquitoes is scheduled to move into high gear February 28. 29 and March 1 when six of the na tion’s top authorities on insects present the first annual mosquito control short course for sanitar ians and exterminators at Oregon state college. Lecturers at the three - day course include C. M. Gjullin and Bob Hoffman, entomologists with the U. S. department of agricul ture: Gaines Eddy, in charge of the entomology research branch USDA; Dr. H. D. Pratt, chief of the insect and rodent control training branch of the U. S. pub lic health service; Ixniis J. Og den. technical consultant. USPHS; and Dr. Paul O. Ritcher, head of the entomology department at Oregon state college. The course is being sponsored by the Oregon state college, U. S. department of agriculture, the U. S. public health service, and the Oregon state board of health and is open to anyone wishing to attend.
