Especially after we have heard so much concern expressed by so many as to what the new highway will do. This merchant, located a few miles from Cottage Grove in a small town say.: that numbers of farmers .and ranchers will have to come by his store to get on the highway and he figures that if the people come by, he will get his share of the business. He says further that statistics supplied by the highway department .shows that a through- way helps business. We admit, and he admits, that there are some types of business which will be hurt. We remember the time when some merchants here thought they would be ruined when the highway was changed from main street to its present location And lots of eastern communities are evidently laboring under the same impression. In coming through the populated sections of the east between Buffalo, New York, and Cleveland. Ohio, we v/ere surprised recently to learn that the highway still runs through the main street of every village and city for 150 miles or so and the motorist soons finds that it is impossible to m«ke r..y time. On a highway of this sort, it's not only impossible to make any time, but it's a tiring ordeal as well and sometimes the motorist is inclined to become so «‘xaspeiated that he will swear he will drive all night rather than spend a night in one of the 35 mile an hour speed zones, he can not seem to shake off.
