Driving while intoxicated re suited after court conviction. Five hundred and eight drivers lost licenses for reckless driving and another 282 were suspended for violation of the state's basic rule s[>eed law. Other suspensions were given out on court convictions or discretionary action on 46 differ- ent charges. Intprot ement Program The state department's driver improvement program lifted li- censes of 74 drivers, after holders were interviewed because of ex cessive violations and accidents but failed to show any behind-the- wheel improvement. In 1950, 26 licenses were called in through the improvement program., In releasing the annual sum mary, Secretary of State Earl T. Newbry said that the state plans , to continue its get tough policy with drivers who fail to obey the state's safety rules.
