The state 4-H office at Oregon State college has an- noUnced that Glenn Klein, 23. of Aumsville, has been chosen to participate in the 1951 Interna tional Farm Youth Exchange pro gram He will spend four months in New Zealand. About 60 young men and women from 34 states will take part in this plan to promote better under standing between rural people of the United States and foreign countries. Each will live on one or i more farms in the country to which he is assigned, and share in the daily work and social life of [the "host”family. Klein lives on a 60-acre farm which operates both a dairy and a greenhouse. He has been a 4-H club member and is now a senior id agriculture education at Oregon State college. His trip is sponsored by the ¡campus 4-H club and Mu Beta ! Beta, honorary 4-H society. It will I h > financed partly by contributions j raised by 4-H clubs throughout the state and partly by the Na tional 4-H Club Foundation of I America. Jimmy and Dennis returned liome Saturday from a visit relatives in Wisconsin. They brought home a ■ new car. Corporal Jack Kerr and Mrs. Kerr left Saturday morning from Roseburg to return to Pittsburg. Calif., where Jack is stationed at Camp Stoneman nearby. L. E. Cosby sold his trailer house during the past week and is now using the store as living I quartern. Several in school have had the measles and a good many more i are expected to have them. Leslie Crane with a permit burn- । ed logged-off land Friday, secur ing a good burn. Bernell Goins stood by with his cat in case the fire went over fire trails. I Sunday school is being held each Sunday at the Curtin school house at ten o’clock. Mr. Arthur F. Kei- stiup of Roseburg is organizer and there were 23 in attendance the | past Sunday. Anyone interested is urged to attend. The Clarence Anlauf’s are en joying their new car. The house in which the Morris killings reside and owned by the Sam Gilmans' caught fire last Monday afternoon from sparks from the flue. Quick discovery of the fire saved the house. The Bill ings lost all of their possessions last August when fire destroyed their cabin in mill camp. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Putney and family of Bellfountain visited friends Sunday at Curtin as they were enroute to Yoncalla to visit their daughter, Mrs. Evon Pen nington and family. The Putneys lived near Leona for several years, leaving the community about six years ago. Ralph Marvick and Charles W. Booher spent Sunday up Dorena way fishing, reporting a fair catch. Several neighbor ladies gathered at the Goins home Tuesday to help Mrs. Goins celebrate her birthday Those enjoying the potluck dinner were Mrs. Sam Gilman, Mrs. Ix\s- lle Crane, Jean and Susan: Mrs. John Sowles, Mrs. Norman Suiter. Mrs. Andrew Redifer, Mrs. Flora Holt, Mrs. Willis Booher and Lauren. Mrs. Sidney Meacham, Mrs. Eldon Thompson and Gary, and the hostess, Mrs. Bernell Goins. Other afternoon guests were Mrs. Harry Hoy and Janice of Creswell. Mrs. Redifers' birth- day was also honored as it oc- curred the day before.
