Plan Road Repairs In Douglas County Two road projects in Douglas county have been announced by the Oregon State highway com mission. Both will be financed by state funds apportioned for ex penditure of city streets. In Yoncalla it is planned to im-1 prove "B" street between Second I and Fifth streets by regrading, new rock work and construction of a 20-foot bituminous macadam wearing surface. In Oakland plans call for a re surfacing of Locust St. with a three inch lift of plant-mixed as phaltic concrete to the width of 64 feet between First and Third streets, and to a 25-foot width be tween Third St. and Second Ave. BARTELLS RETIRE FROM HOTEL BUSINESS Old friends of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. (Bart) Bartell may be inter ested in the announcement made at Arcata, Calif., the past week that the Bartells have leased the Hotel Arcata to Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Monchke, formerly of North Bend, Oreg., and will retire after forty years in the hotel business. They left Arcata for Salem re- cently and wiH make their home with Mrs. Olo Miller, sister of Mrs. Baiteli. The Bartells operated a hotel here starting in 1911, later open ing up the Corvallis hotel in 1930 and moved to Arcata in 19*10 where they have since resided. There is less danger of baled hay "heating up" in the barn particularly if care is taken in laying the bales. Open spaces not only help cure the hay, but also keep it cooler.
