This Army Day finds your new Regular Army charged
with the task of helping to build a lasting world peace.
No other nation ever has dared face such an assign­
ment on a 100% volunteer basis—a traditional Amer­
ican policy in peacetime.
You have today the largest volunteer army that
any nation has ever successfully recruited in peace­
time. But this army is still short of the minimum
strength required to do the job that you, through your
Congress, have given it.
The strength of your new Army is not found in
numbers alone. It is also found in the intelligence, train­
ing and physical fitness of the individual soldier—and
in his clear conviction that only a strong America
can be a peaceful America.
Shoulder to shoulder with this soldier are other
volunteers who are helping with the gigantic job of
peace. The National Guard of the United States, the
Organized Reserve Corps and the R.O.T.C. also de­
serve your active interest and whole-hearted support.
Visit Army Day exhibits and events that are being
held in your community. This is your opportunity to
get vital, first-hand information about your new
Army and about what you can do to help maintain
it. Find out how your Army is protecting you and how
it is helping to secure the peace the whole world so
desperately desires.
Fly the flag on this Army Day! Salute your new
soldier! And vow that you will back him to the limit
in the monumental task assigned to him I
