Since 1941 there have been m any rum ors going the rounds
as to in e ffic ie n c y . waste and g ra ft. Some a rc tru e , others are
not. hut it s come to the p o in t whore the average in d iv id u a l does
not know w h a t to believe when he hears it. Perhaps it's a g o o !
th in g we d o n ’t know the tr u th in some instance, otherw ise we
w o u ld rem ain a n g ry a ll the tim e, w hich w ould lessen e fficie n cy.
R ecently the statem ent was made th a t a ll the salvage tin
was used lo r was to make tin s to ship beer to the servicemen.
W h a t we d o n ’t know about tin w o u ld f i l l several volumes, hut
we w ould question th is statem ent. A t the b eginn ing o f the w a r
we w ere to ld how tin was salvaged. W’ e know th a t it has an im ­
p o rta n t fu n c tio n at home in coating the can c o n ta in in g food and
th a t as long as co m m u n ity canneries as w ell as com m ercial can­
neries operate tin w ill he needed to pin-serve the can. W e ’ ve
been to ld too th a t bombers re q u ire at least seven pounds o f pun-
tin , th a t tin is used in the m edical containers fo r the servicemen,
that flares used by dow ned flie rs contain a good p o rtio n o f tin .
