Clayton's small daughter Georgia had the thumb and the end of the forefinger on the right hand chopped off Tui -.day while the children were playing at home. The attending physician said there was a 50 per cent 1 lorneriiiikerN who have areena chance of saving the thumb. Io fro zen frxxl lockers may store < gi;x auecesafujly in these lockers during the heavy laying season for use when egg prices are high er, according to experiments car ried out a I the school of home economics at Oregon State col lege. Commercial freezing of egg whites and yolks has been prac ticed successfully for many years, but little if any work hus been done to adapt the process to small-scale use In the home. A successful procedure for such small-scale freezing, as well ns ex periment* with the use of frozen eggs in cixiking, has Ix-en carried out this winter by Gladys Hed lund, graduate assistant, under the supervision of Miss Agnes Kolshorn, associate professor of foods und nutrition. Egg yolks, particularly, require treatment b e f o r e putting in a frozen locker, else they will be gummy and difficult to use when removed from storage Miss Hed- lund's experiments showed that the addition of a small amount of honey to the eggs before freezing is the most effective treatment, although salt, sugar, or corn syrup may be used satisfactorily for this same purpose. Eggx for freezing must be clean before breaking and need to be handled in a sanitary manner, as Hprlng houM* rlra n ln g , alw ay» th o u g h t o f a« an Irkxo ntr, «ra»onal ehorv, haa become (la n io r lir< | w ith n am in g of 2 0 -y e a r-o h i l.u r lllr it Is important to keep bacterial • <**r y “ f N e w a rk .
