Nelson Jr. it wa* noted that the public is becoming educated regarding shopping and mailing early as the increased bus iness nt the post office was hand le« J on a more even ki**! than in former year* when everyone tried to mail all parcel* and greeting card* two or three day* before Qiristma*. On December 20th 2672 letters were handled. On December 21st 4792, and 8964 on December 22nd, which wa* the peak day, when 98 sack* of parcel poet mnll wore dispatched. Approximately 1600 parcels. For the 5 days, Decem ber 20th to December 24 inclusive, approximately .30,000 letter* and 6000 Christmas parcel* were dis patched. December receipt* for postage totaled $2751.09 against $2.296.20 for 1936, over 20 per cent gain, while receipt* For 1937 totaled $17,71800 against $16,236.16 or over 9 per cent gain. The past four years ha* shown a constant gain in the Cottage Grove post office as follows. 1933 (low year» I $10,736.06. 1934, $12,648 16; 1935, S14..W7 17; 1936, $16,236.16; 1937, 17,718 Gain in 1937 over 1933, $6,981.94 or 65 per cent. Mountain States Files Petition Requesting Reorganization The division office of the Moun tain States I’owcr company at Al bany has released the information that the Dint riet Court of the United State* for the District of Deleware at Wilmington entered an order approving Its petition for reorganization filed under *ection 778. The order continued the com pany in [xm*c*»lon of it* property and also authorized it to pay it* bond l.itereat which wa* due Jan 1. 1938 Mr. Z. E. Merrill wa* elected president of the company at the election held by it* Board of Di rector* on December 27, 1937, fol- lowing the resignation of Presi-^ dent C. M. Brewer. The company will institute re-, organization proceeding* Friday by filing a voluntary petition for reorganization in the above men tioned court under Section 778 of the Federal Bankruptcy Act. The petition will recite the inability of the company, although otherwise solvent, to meet the maturity of it* first mortgage gold bond*/ Series A, five per cent and scries B six per cent, totaling $8,182,250 dur January 1, 1938. These proceedings air being in-1 stituted for the protection of the interests of security holders. The company states that this in formation is not given in connec tion with any sale or offer for I sale or offer to buy any security.
