To make updates, corrections and to add your church to this list, email info to Erin@Chronicle1909.com Carl Wilkerson Creswell native, LCSO chief deputy is FBI grad FROM STAFF REPORTS Lane County Sheriff’s Offi ce (LCSO) Chief Deputy Carl Wilkerson Jr., a Creswell native, recently completed one of the toughest challenges available to local law enforcement offi cers: the FBI National Academy. Chief Deputy Wilkerson and two other Oregon law enforcement officers gradu- ated a 10-week training session at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, in September. There is a highly competi- tive process local law enforce- ment offi cers must go through to be selected for this honor. That process includes nomination by a supervisor; interviews with the candidate and co-workers to determine leadership skills and abilities; a background check; determination of phys- ical fi tness; and the support of former National Academy grad- uates within the candidate’s orga- nization. “The exceptional leaders selected to attend the National Academy have a great opportu- nity to share their experiences with peers and learn best prac- tices from across the country and the world,” said Renn Cannon, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon. “Only a few law enforcement offi cers from Oregon attend each year, and we are proud to sponsor Chief Deputy Wilkerson and our other local partners in the National Academy.” Chief Deputy Wilkerson started with LCSO in 1994. He became a deputy in 1996, work- ing in corrections and later trans- ferring to the Police Services Division. He served as a patrol deputy on the Traffi c Safety Team, as a Creswell contract deputy, and on county patrol, serving commu- nity members over an area of 4,600 square miles. In 2005, the agency promoted him to detective in the Criminal Investigations Section, and, in 2013, to sergeant. In 2018, he was promoted to the position of police services lieutenant before accepting the promotion to chief deputy, second in command to the sher- iff, in 2019. Chief Deputy Wilkerson has served on the Marijuana Eradication Team, as a drug recognition expert; as a SWAT operator; and on the Interagency Deadly Force Investigations Team. “I am extremely proud of Chief Deputy Wilkerson and thankful he was able to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for law enforcement leaders in this nation,” said LCSO Sheriff Cliff Harrold, another Creswell native. “I am looking forward to his return to the offi ce where the information, knowledge, and skills he gained at the FBI National Academy will be used for the betterment of our orga- nization and the community we serve.” BIBLE TRIVIA 1. CHRONICLE ARCHIVES Creswell teens become Eagles EXCERPT FROM OCT. 27, 1993 CHRONICLE – Billy Halvorson and Carl Wilkerson Jr., both of Creswell, will receive the Eagle Scout (award during a) Court of Honor next month. The two 19-year-olds, who started Scouts together 10 years ago and became best friends, will be named (as Eagle Scouts) Nov. 6 at the Creswell Church of the Nazarene. The award will be presented by Rev. Sam Morgan, who is pastor at New Hope Baptist Church. Wilkerson earned 24 merit badges, including brotherhood, member of the Order of the Arrow, a service award, and for organizing and helping to build a lifeguard tower at Camp Makualla. He held numerous offi ces, including coun- selor at Camp Baker. Wilkerson was on the Honor Roll at Creswell High School, and lettered all four years, as well as being student body treasurer. His scout- ing service project was the construc- tion of a complete room of shelves at the Creswell Nazarene Food Bank. He also was active in the church and trav- eled to Mexico. Halvorson, the son of Rev. Ron and Debby Halvorson of Creswell, is with Troop #28 and Carl Wilkerson Jr. is scoutmaster. Wilkerson is the son of Carl and Ann Wilkerson Jr., and is with Troop #140. Larry Stegall is scoutmas- ter. Halvorson earned 21 merit badges including aviation, scholarship, draft- ing and sports. He was a senior patrol leader for the past six months, and patrol leader in charge of a new branch for a year. He was a Cub Scout for two years and a Webelo Scout for one year. Halvorson participated in football and track at Creswell High School, and was a member of the National Honor Society. He was youth/teen president for two years of Nazarene Young People’s International, and worked in Tecate, Mexico.
