THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2019 THE CHRONICLE — 9 OFFBEAT OREGON HISTORY LOCAL HISTORY < 50 YEARS AGO < OCTOBER 9, 1969 - Mrs. and Mr. Ernest and Belva Schrenk, Sr of Cloverdale Rd., were honored at an open house reception marking their 50th wedding anniversary, at the Pleasant Hill Lutheran Church in the Parrish Hall, September 28. Many friends and relatives were in attendance for the celebration. The couple were married in 1922 and moved to Pleasant Hill in 1922, when Mr. Schrenk started his farming busi- ness. THE CHRONICLE 25 YEARS AGO < The burglars gained entry by forcing wire mesh screen over a rear door and passing through a storeroom behind Claghorn’s Market, police said. Max has been in the shelter since May and is patiently waiting to meet his forever family! He is very good on walks and would love to go on adventures and runs with his family. He loves playing with his toys and running around in the yard! He is a very handsome gentleman with the cutest ears that perk up when he gets excited. Our volunteers say “Max is so well behaved, an absolute angel. He is very respectful and attentive.” Max is 5 years old and weighs 54 lbs. He is a large, tan pitbull terrier mix. He would do best as the only dog in the home but may do okay with another very aloof dog. He should go to a cat free home and can get nervous when meeting new people. His new family should be willing to give him some patience to warm up but once he does, he is a huge lover. Max is such a sweet guy who will make any family very happy! OCTOBER 5, 1994 - BILL LUND/THE CHRONICLE Museum renovation begins BY BILL LUND THE CHRONICLE EXCERPT FROM OCT. 5, 1994 - Last week, volunteers from the Creswell Historical Society tore down the chimney of the Creswell Historical Museum, mark- ing the first phase of remodeling for the 105-year-old building. The restoration of the museum, which also houses the Creswell Chamber of Commerce office, will involve pouring a new foundation, replacing the roof, install- ing a new heating system and wheelchair ramp, and replacing the front porch. Call Erin at The Chronicle 541-895-2197 and Oregon Avenue was originally the Methodist-Episcopal Church. The histor- ical society purchased it in the mid-1970s. Once restored, the society hopes to expand the museum’s hours of operation and promote the building as a tourist attraction. The next phase will be to replace the heat- ing system. So far, $22,800 has been raised for the restoration project. The City of Creswell has allotted $10,000 and an additional $5,000 has come from Lane County room taxes dedicated to rural tourism. The rest is the result of various donations. Contributions for the restoration can be made at Siuslaw Valley Bank.
