Vernonia City News...
Citizen of the Month – Councilor
Donald Normand nominated
Karen Miller for her work on
behalf of the Vernonia Senior
Center and postings in the
Vernonia's Voice newspaper.
Correction – In the July 7, 2022 issue of
Vernonia's Voice we misspelled the name of
Whelan Easley who was presented with the
Citizen of the Month award at the June 21 City
Council meeting. Vernonia's Voice sincerely
regrets this error.
At the July 11 Special City Council Meeting:
Council Approves Jamboree Liquor
Licenses – Council approved liquor licenses
for the following groups/events during
Jamboree weekend: the Jamboree Committee
to have a distillery vendor at the Spencer Park
Picnic Shelter; The American Legion for an
event at their building at 627 Adams Avenue;
and Buckshot Betty's for a beer garden.
At the July 18, 2022 City Council Meeting:
Council Hears Presentation on Thanksgiving
Turkey Program – Susan Wagner, on behalf
of the Vernonia Senior Center, requested the
City help support a fundraiser to give away
turkeys at Thanksgiving. She said the project
was hoping to raise $3,500. Wagner said they
had already received a $500 donation and City
Recorder Stephanie Borst pledged $100 during
the presentation.
Mayor Appoints DeMent to Public Works
Committee – With approval from the rest of
the Council, Mayor Rick Hobart appointed
Tom DeMent to the community Public Works
Committee.
Council Hears Request from E-bike
Business – Council heard a request from
Fishhawk eCyclery, a new local business who
was seeking permission to set up a mobile
e-bicycle rental and repair shop at Vernonia
Lake Park. Fishhawk eCyclery has a Vernonia
business license and liability insurance, would
need an electrical hookup, and offers a variety
of services including rentals of several different
models by the hour, along with repairs. Council
asked staff to bring a proposed agreement and
a bid to install electricity to their August 1
meeting.
Council Approves Master Fee Schedule
Update – Council adopted Resolution 2022-
