4 letters to the editor/community bulletin board january3 2019 Readers Lend Their Voices... To the Editor, Many of us find ourselves need- ing some time for ourselves as we wind down from this very busy holiday sea- son. We all know we need exercise and we also know we need rest and self care. If you find yourself weary after all of life’s wonderful, but busy and some- times stressful holiday happenings, yoga can be a great way to get both ex- ercise and quieting time designed just for you. I am currently teaching Yoga at the Vernonia Grange. Classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 am. The classes are for all levels of abil- ity and are a combination of movement and quieting with focus on your breath, alignment, and areas of your body that need attention. Classes are designed to help you re-energize from a busy life. Classes are one hour and are by dona- tion only. A suggested donation is $5, but the focus is for you to be a part of a small caring group that supports each student rather than for profit, so please don’t let finances be the deciding factor. You do not need any yoga experience to attend. If you have a yoga mat that is helpful, but we have extras if you don’t have one. All you have to do is show up! If you have any questions or concerns you can check us out on face- book at “Yoga at the Vernonia Grange.” If you have questions please feel free to give me a call or send an email. The day will end with tips on how to improve back- yards and gardens with more blooms to keep all pollinators healthy. The workshop is presented by Columbia County Beekeepers, a lo- cal group of active beekeepers includ- ing workshop presenters, Linda Zahl, DeeAnn Herschback, Paul Vincent, and Ron McLaughlin. Steve Gomes, a re- tired Wildlife Biologist who practices creative beekeeping husbandry in or- der to be as chemical free as possible, will be joining the teaching team. Open Meetings Mondays & Thursdays 6:30-7:30 pm Vernonia Christian Church 410 North Street Women’s Meeting Tuesdays 6:30-7:30 pm Vernonia Christian Church 410 North Street Columbia Humane Society Featured Dog Purr-fect Pals Ximena is about 5 months old. She came to the shelter with 11 other kittens. She was very shy when she first got here but has grown leaps and bounds. We don't think Ximena is going to do well with other cats as she can be a little cranky when she is meeting new kids, and is stand-offish with dogs. She would do best in a home that is quiet. This sweet little girl’s adoption fee is $145 which includes all her vaccinations and she has been spayed and microchipped. Bandit came to the shelter after being adopted 2 years ago. There were some life circumstances that made it so his family could no longer keep him. We are told Bandit does well with kids and cats and will do well with other dogs as long as they are mellow just like he is. This kid is coming in at 7 years old and about 96 pounds. He would love to have a home where he could retire in front of the fire and just hang out. Bandit can be a little afraid of strangers when he first meets them and his previous owners felt that possibly sometime in his life he had a bad time with an bigger gentleman as sometimes he will growl at them. Bandit is current on vaccines, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms. If you are interested in meeting Bandit please don't hesitate to call or email. At CHS the health and welfare of the animals in our care is our number one priority. We are dedicated to helping our adoptive families find that one perfect fit that will complete their family. Please email or call so that we can talk to you about your needs and wants in a new family member prior to just arriving at the kennels. 2084 Oregon Street, St. Helens, OR 97051 Phone: 503-397-4353 E-mail: info@columbiahumane.org Web: www.columbiahumane.org
