8 community/schools september6 2018 Bear Creek Run Results Fundraiser for Kendra and Her New Heart On July 24, Kendra Stefan, a junior at Vernonia High School, re- ceived a new heart. The road to recov- ery after a transplant is a long one, but she’s a trooper, bravely fighting her way through the hurdles to healing. Kendra and her aunt, Heather Lewis, must re- main near the hospital in Seattle for 3-6 months so her new heart can be moni- tored by her medical team. As you can imagine, their temporary relocation has created some financial challenges. Ken- dra enjoyed the support of the Vernonia community as she waited for her new lease on life. As she and her aunt focus on healing, it’s time for Vernonia to cheer her on again. Join us for an eve- ning of fun. ALL are welcome! September 15, 4:00-8:00 pm at the Cabin in Vernonia. Bring a dish to share and/ or a dessert to auction. $20 suggested donation. The 2018 Bear Creek Run was held August 18, with 22 runners competing in the 10K and almost 50 running in the 5K.
