To the Editor, Just a reminder to the com- munity about what I am collecting/ recycling to help pay/raise money for physical education equipment at the Vernonia Schools What we are collecting: Box Top Labels Old cell phones & ink cartridges Flav-R-Pac & Santiam Labels (upc part) Colgate (toothbrushes, empty toothpaste tubes, packaging) We are no longer collecting: Cereal Bags Capri Sun pouches Campbell Soup Labels (the program has shut down) Writing Instruments (Paper Mate, Sharpie, & Expo) Elmer glue sticks If you have questions or are not quite sure about what is the correct upc label or product, please don’t hesitate to email (gspaulding@Vernonia.k12. or.us) or come talk to me. These items can be handed to me personally, mailed to the school, or dropped off at the school and someone in the office will put in my mailbox. Thanks for your time/support. I have started an account for Johnny at US Bank; this account is called A DOG FOR JOHNNY. Johnny weights 150 pounds and knows no fear and would like a dog to sleep in his room and help keep him safe when he is out walking. Please help make a companion dog for Johnny a reality. Thank you. Hunter Safety Offered in Vernonia This class is open to children and adults who would like to hunt big game in Oregon or any other state requiring a hunter safety class. Students can sign up at any ODFW POS location or online at: https://myodfw.com/articles/take- hunter-education-course-or-field-day. The fact that the ballots for the Board election were received too late and for some not at all is going unchallenged. So as few as 340 voters are deciding what 4,000+ members will be getting. I do understand the reason for apathy. It’s all gone on for so long that so many feel there is nothing that can be done. Why try to make a difference, they have the lawyers, the governmental agencies, the pull, we can’t win, so why waste our time and effort? I understand, I really do. Having my ears boxed for trying to point out certain facts is no fun, so, yes, I understand. But will I shut up when I see flagrant misuse of our money? NO, and they can continue finding new ones and repeating old reasons for the way things are all they want. It doesn’t change the facts we’re being taken to the cleaners. The Mist-Birkenfeld RFPD Board of Directors will meet for their regular board meeting Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 7:00 pm at the Main Station, 12525 Highway 202, Mist, OR. Columbia Humane Society Purr-fect Pals Featured Dog Binxy, Binxy the wonder cat! This kid will be sure to make your heart smile. Binx came to us when he couldn't find a place to go and had, what we thought at the time, was an upper respiratory infection. Come to find out after several different antibiotics and some pretty expensive testing, he has basically what is called a chronic cold. The vets feel there is a chance that as he gets older he will grow out of it. He has been tested and they don't think he is infectious to other cats, he just has times that his eyes water and he sneezes a lot. Binx is also part of our great Cat Pawsative training program, so we are teaching him to do all kinds of neat tricks like jump through a hoop and give a high five when asked. Tori came to the shelter when her owner got sick and was no longer able to care for her. We don’t have the full details but we’re guessing that she is about 10 years old. It took her a little while to get settled in, but once we got her with a foster family we were able to learn a lot about this little lady. Tori loves to be with her people, loves to be with other dogs, and loves to chase her ball. She does have loss of vision and some loss of hearing due to old age. We recently had her blood work and urine analysis done and she is in great health. We also had a dental done. Tori does have a bit of bladder incontinence at night while sleeping so is on medications to help with that. Her new family must be aware that the meds are going to cost about $30 a month. PLEASE NOTE THAT TORI IS NOT AT THE SHELTER so please either call or email if you are interested in meeting Tori. At CHS the health and welfare of the animals in our care is our number one priority. We are dedicated to helping our adoptive families find that one perfect fit that will complete their family.
