Roy Jay Gehrke September 12, 1955 - May 13, 2018 Roy Jay Gehrke, age 62, passed away on Sunday, May 13 at 12:05 am from injuries received in an automobile accident in Kamiah, Idaho. Roy was born on September 12, 1955 in Houston, Texas to parents Marvin Arnold Gehrke and Aloma Lorene Gehrke. Roy is survived by his children Joshua Gehrke of Gresham, Oregon, Jes- sie Taylor and Erin Gehrke-Swepston of Vernonia; his seven grandchildren Na- than, Emily, Megan, Stetson, Sterling, Aloma; and one unborn grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is sur- vived by his siblings Toni Shumaker of Nez Perce, Idaho, Arnold Gehrke of Nez Perce, Idaho, and Mona Hoilien of Forest Grove. He was preceded in death by both parents Arnold and Aloma; and his sister Lisa Gehrke Vogt. Roy grew up in Forest Grove and graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1973. Roy married Gail English in 1975 and they had one child together, Joshua Gehrke. They resided primarily in the Forest Grove area until they divorced in 1979. Roy married Donna Leriche in 1982 and they had two children together, Jessie and Erin Gehrke. They resided pri- marily in Forest Grove and Vernonia. Roy and Donna were divorced in 2000. Later he moved to Nez Perce, Idaho where he had spent some of his youth farming and ranching on his family’s property. Since then, and at the time of his death, he resided in Nez Perce with his girlfriend Dawna Lux. Roy primarily worked as a finish carpenter for most of his life. In addition, he also did mill work, farming, and ranching. He enjoyed a vari- ety of hobbies including ro- deoing, flying, sailing, and woodworking projects. He was most recently working as a handyman in Nez Perce and worked on projects with his girlfriend. He built his own wooden sailboat and enjoyed taking his family out to sail. Roy loved his family more than anything in the world. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and always had a lesson to teach. He lived a very eventful life and was known for being a great sto- ryteller in his unforgettable deep voice. Roy was a dreamer and often dreamed of sailing and flying. He was a true cowboy and loved living on the prairie in Idaho. Roy had the biggest heart and always ex- pressed his love for those he cared for. He was a light in the dark, a legend in his own story, and a gift to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten. His family held a Celebration of Life in Vernonia on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Cabin in Verno- nia (Scout Cabin). The family invited all those who knew Roy to come share their stories and help celebrate his life. An in- formal get together followed the service at the Cedar Side Inn. Don‛t worry. Gertrude “Trudy” Margaret Magoff Gertrude “Tru- dy” Margaret Magoff, 94, formerly of Ver- nonia, late of Forest Grove, died Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Tu- ality Community Hos- pital in Hillsboro. A Graveside Service was held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 1:30 pm at the Vernonia Memorial Cemetery, 2080 Bridge Street in Vernonia, with Pastor Sam Hough of the Vernonia Christian Church officiating. Burial Rites and Interment followed at the cemetery. Gertrude “Trudy” Margaret Magoff was born in Vernonia on May 31, 1924. Trudy was raised and edu- cated in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1942. In 1945 she married Joe Ma- goff of Vernonia and lived there until June 2013. They were married for 62 years until his death in 2007. While in Vernonia, Trudy was a Girl Scout leader, active in the Ver- nonia Christian Church, and civic or- ganizations such as Lions Club. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking berry cobblers and cookies. Big Band music was her favorite, also Perry Como. Bowling was really en- joyed, also golfing, walking “the lake” and feeding the ducks were big on her list. In 2013, Trudy moved to For- Vernonia Veterinary Clinic est Grove and lived in Rainbows End Foster Home. She received ex- cellent care and made new friends. Her family thanks all the caregiv- ers. Trudy is survived by her daughter Diana Ma- rie (Kenneth) Day of Lancaster, California; her grandchildren Kathleen (Alex) Day-Rodriguez of Lancaster, Califor- nia, and Kenneth Day III of Canoga Park, California; her great-grand- daughter Briana Day of Burbank, California; her sister Joyce (Dennis) Burns of Santa Cruz, California; and five nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-daughter Sharon Williams of Hillsboro, Oregon; and two step-grandsons. Trudy was preceded in death by her husband Joe; her parents Peter and Bertha Matiaco; and her brother Peter F. Matiaco. She truly loved the people of Vernonia.
