4 letters to the editor/community bulletin board march15 2018 Readers Lend Their Voices... To the Editor, In Columbia County, Oregon, who is most important? Residents are. Why? They live here. They pay the li- on’s share of the taxes. Therefore, resi- dents should have the strongest voice. To assure this we need to elect a com- missioner who will best represent ‘We The People.’ That person is Paulette Li- chatowich. Here are her qualifica- tions: for over a decade Paulette has been intensely involved with service to the County and its residents. She has served 13 years on the Planning Commission. That means being on the firing line of zoning and construction which is a totally demanding task. Fur- ther, she worked for the Department of Agriculture and Resource Econom- ics at OSU; was associate editor for The Western Journal of Agricultural Economics; and the S’Kallam Native Americans education system. She has volunteered with Community Meals, the Food Bank Board and P.E.O. scholarships for women. Hands-on- Economics while emphasizing tech- nology, literacy and people: that is a productive combination of experience for being an effective Commissioner. What is at stake? IT and new age businesses; roads; zoning (Port Westward); renewable energy vs. fos- P.E.O. Spring Tea The Vernonia chapter of P.E.O. is pleased to announce it will hold its fourth annual Spring Tea at the Cabin in Vernonia on Saturday, April 28, starting at 1:00 pm. Tea sandwiches and desserts will be served along with entertainment and three raffle baskets. Tickets are available from any P.E.O. member and at R&S Market in the Video De- partment - $10 for adults and $7 for those under 18. All proceeds are dedicated to P.E.O. scholarships for graduating senior girls and women of all ages attending college. Jack and Nancy Phillips Vernonia Banks Cafe to Host Guest Speaker on Health and Nutrition The Banks Trailhead Café is having a guest speaker, John Patrick Archer D.C. The gathering will occur on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 2:30 pm. Topics will include: Nutrition, Sleep, Exercise, De-stressing on a daily basis, and more. The overall message is how you can create a healthy lifestyle, one meal at a time. Health is a skill and an art that anyone can learn. This talk is to give people insights, goals, and tools to take home and utilize daily. The body has the innate ability to heal if given the chance. Upper Nehalem Watershed Council Meeting Online Licensing Available for Dog Owners in Columbia County For the convenience of county dog owners, you may now license your dog(s) online. The Sheriff’s Office web page for dog licensing is located at www. co.columbia.or.us/sheriff. The link to the Dog Licensing page is in large font among the links under the Sheriff’s Greetings on the home page. The online dog licensing form automatically calculates licensing fees. You will need your rabies information to be submitted along with the online form, and licensing is dependent on our ability to confirm that each dog to be licensed has been inoculated against rabies. There is a small fee charged by the card processor that is added to the total cost.
