community september7 Lions Club Rifle Raffle Dinner and Drawing The Vernonia Lions Club is drawing three big priz- es on Monday, September 18 at the Cabin in Vernonia (aka Scout Cabin). Grand Prizes include a Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 & Leupold VX-2 MSR $1,042, Ruger AR-556 & 30 Round Clip MSR $829, and a Ruger 10-22, 100RDS & 25 Round Magazine MSR $309. Ad- ditionally nine lucky people will win a 100 Rounds of Win- chester 22LR. Winners need not be present. All winners must be eligible under local and Federal regulations. Ticket sales were limit- ed to 1,000. They were/are sold for $10 each or three for $20. The odds of winning a prize are one in 83. The odds of winning a grand prize 1 in 333. Dinner will be served at 5:30 pm with the drawing at 6:30 pm. This is the Lions’ first Rifle Raffle and to celebrate they will be serving compli- mentary BBQ sandwiches, coleslaw, and elk meat chili. They are serving first come/ first served until they run out. There will be a 50/50 raffle as well as accepting donations at the door. Plan to come early so you don’t miss out. This event is open to the public. The Lions Club of Ver- nonia would like to thank all of the people that have supported their efforts and those that have 2017 purchased tickets and the “All In Pub & Eatery” for selling tickets and hosting the Texas Hold’em Poker Tournaments; the next game is Saturday, Sep- tember 16 at 6:00 pm.. The Lions serve the community by providing eye- glasses and hearing aids to those in need. “We Serve” is their motto and they serve in many different ways. A relatively new program for the club, that started with the Dewey Pool Project, is 9 to provide benches in city parks. Working with the City and the Freewheelers (great concrete work) the Lions have installed benches by the pool and by the play structure in Hawkins Park. The lifeguard stand has been replaced with a donation by the Terry Schaumberg Estate with a lightweight Tyvek product. Jim Buxton, Cici Bell, and Cory Colburn shared The Voice at Bob and Julie Prohaska’s property in Dayville, Oregon during the August 21st eclipse, while awaiting totality.
