community april20 2017 17 Bridge Street Bits By Karen Miller APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS! In that case, we should have plenty of flowers if this equation proves to be true. No promises here, but hoping I won’t be writing “MAY showers bring JUNE flowers” next month, but the tune of Here Comes the Sun will be sweet music to our ears! THE SENIOR CENTER BOARD would like to extend our heartfelt sorrow to the family of Rosy McCoy with her passing. Rosy was a valuable contributor to our Center and to the Food Bank for many years. Please note: On April 23 rd at 5:00 pm at the Grace Family Fellowship Hall there will be a Celebration Of Life and potluck afterwards. All family and friends are welcome to attend. THANK YOU TO Anonymous Donor and to Dick and Kathleen Gwin for their generous donations to our Support Our Seniors (SOS) meals program. Thank you to the Vernonia City Council for their support of the program. To date $1,555 has been donated. These donations from the community are what help feed our seniors in need of a nutritious meal. Thank you to our three local restaurants for their participation in preparing meals: Mariolino’s, Black Iron Grill, and Subway. To make a donation please send a check made out to Vernonia Senior Center, 939 Bridge Street, Vernonia, OR 97064. Upon request a tax deductible receipt will be issued. Please write SOS Program in the memo on your check. VOLUNTEERS are always needed at our local thrift store on Bridge Street. Please come in and see store manager Pam. OUR AARP SAFE DRIVING CLASS held at the American Legion Hall was a great refresher class for those in attendance, especially since a review of the law changes are always important and beneficial to increase our safe driving habits on the road, at ANY age. Call for information on an upcoming class near you. Thanks Rod Price for the use of the building. NOMINATIONS FOR MY FAIR LADY PRINCESS are being taken. Call me with any suggestions. MICHELLE MOORE, Columbia City Benefits Group is always available to Medicare clients. Call her at (503) 366-9550. NEXT BOARD MEETING: May 12, 10:00 am American Legion Hall. Come join us. Call me for any senior questions or concerns, (503) 429 -0273. SENIOR SIGN OFF: Speaking of “safe driving,” The straight and narrow path is the only one that has no traffic problems.
