Next Step, has found a new storefront
in Saint Helens at 1271 Columbia Blvd.
Our open house on December 15, 2016
from 4 to 7 pm welcomes the commu-
nity. We are a nonprofi t company that
helps adults who have been unemployed
learn job skills that will help them fi nd
sustainable work. Parents without jobs

The recent negotiated reversal
Carrier Heat & AC Indiana did regard-
ing their plan to move production of
heat pumps to Mexico saving 1,100
$60K+ jobs over Thanksgiving has
encouraged working Americans every-
where.
The brokered $7 million tax
break to Carrier translates to $650.00/
employee/yr. Considering the 3.3% In-
diana income tax plus federal tax and
FICA, each employee will be contribut-
ing over $23K yearly over 7 years reach-
ing $253 million, wages remaining con-
stant.
This says nothing of saving the
cost of unemployment, food stamps, and
foreclosed properties had the closure
gone through.

Vernonia Cares Holiday Closure
Vernonia Cares Food Bank will
be closed for a holiday break December
16-January 2. It will reopen Tuesday,
January 3. Sandy Welch, director,
would also like to remind clients that
if the Vernonia Schools are closed due
to poor weather, the food bank will also
be closed. “We want to keep both our
clients and volunteers safe,” Welch

Bazaar Held at
Faith Bible West
Faith Bible West (formerly
Banks Christian Academy) will be
having a Christmas Bazaar on
Saturday, December 17 from 9:00
am to 4:00 pm. Get your last minute
shopping gifts from local handcrafting
vendors and many others! Have
gifts at home that still need to be
wrapped? Visit their gift wrapping
station and have it taken care of by
their great volunteers. Located at

Featured Pet
We are currently housing Frank for our friends
from the Washington Akita Rescue. We have
learned a lot about him in the time he has
been with us. He has a rough play style with
other dogs. He is not aggressive, just really
over active. He is a big dog and likes to play
hard. He did well on his cat test. Once the
test cat put him in his place he had no issues.
He pulls on-leash when you first start walking
with him, but he is very receptive to training
and to treats. He can be a little shy when you
first meet him, but give him a few minutes to
warm up to you. He is goofy and very lovable.
If you would like to meet Frank please come
in; he is ready for his new friends.
