12 december1 2016 This Holiday Season Don’t Forget to Shop Local Every year at this time, holiday shoppers are reminded to sup- port their local merchants and do at least some of their holiday shop- ping a local stores. This is your annual reminder! When you shop local, you support your friends and neighbors and keep more money in the local economy. This year “Catch the Holiday Spirit” is a program that encour- ages shoppers to spend their money at Columbia County businesses and earn a chance to win $50 gift cards by collecting stamps at partici- pating businesses for each $10 they spend, or for each transaction at fi nancial institutions. In Vernonia, participating businesses are: Crea- tures Pet Shop, Mariolino’s Pizza and Grill, Vernonia Florist, Vernonia Hardware & Liquor Store, and Wauna Credit Union. In Vernonia, there are lots of businesses where you can shop to purchase gifts, decorations, and stocking stuffers for the holidays. Please consider spending your holiday dollars locally and supporting local merchants. Out on a Limb – This beautiful gift shop is fi lled with holiday cheer, especially if you like to decorate or are looking for a gift for your host or hostess at a holiday party. You’re sure to fi nd something here for anyone on your list. Made In Vernonia – Kathy Larsen has reopened this favorite shopping spot at a new location on Madison Avenue. She still features locally made items including pottery, wood carvings, signs, books by local author D. Wallace Peach, and much more. Creatures Pet Shop – Don’t forget your furry friends this holiday season. Creatures stocks all kinds of gifts for them, from new beds and food bowls, to collars and leashes. Creatures also stocks gifts for your human friends as well, including a large selection of toys and games for children and tack for that horse lover on your list. Noble Outfi tters boots have also been especially popular this year. Vernonia Florist – Ben and Lisa Edgar’s new location is packed with gift ideas from wreaths to bath products to fun hats and scarves. One great gift idea would be a one-of-a- kind portrait of your pet by Ben. Stop by the shop to see an example of his work, along with all the other new gift ideas. Keturah Coffee – Locally roasted coffee makes a great gift or stocking stuffer. Sam and Kari Hough have their products in several stores around town including Out On a Limb, Made in Vernonia, and R&S Market.
