6 community news november3 2016 P. E.O. Wreath Sale Once again it’s time to start thinking about Christmas plans and preparing for another special holiday season - including, of course, the annual Vernonia Christmas Bazaar. This year marks P. E.O.’s 25 th season of providing Christmas wreaths that fund local scholarships. P. E.O. wants to make sure that people in and around Vernonia get these gorgeous wreaths that decorate so many front doors. For many of us, this is the first holiday decoration to appear, a sure- fire way to get the Christmas Spirit going. If you have ordered wreaths in the past, you should expect a phone call soon asking if you would like to reorder this year. This pre- sale order plan helps us make sure to have an ample supply. Call Mary Tolonen, (503) 429- 7214, to place your order now. Wreaths will be available right before Thanksgiving. There will also be wreaths for sale at the Christmas Bazaar while supplies last. The price is once again $20 for a 22-to 24-inch diameter wreath. They may be picked up at the bazaar or can be delivered to you. Prepayment is encouraged. And, as always, all proceeds are used to fund scholarships for women in our community. See you at the Christmas Bazaar December 3 rd and 4 th in the School Commons. OSU Forestry Presentation Join the Upper Nehalem Water- shed Council as they welcome Oregon State University Forestry Professor Doug Maguire who will be presenting the latest science and research relating to clear cut- ting and its impact on watersheds throughout the state. There will be a Q&A session after the presen- tation. Thursday, November 17, 7:00 pm at the Vernonia Grange. Dog Licenses Now Available at Columbia Humane Society The Columbia Humane Soci- ety (CHS) is pleased to announce that the CHS Board of Directors, Sheriff’s Department, and the Columbia County Board of Commissioners have agreed that Columbia County Dog Licenses may be purchased directly from the CHS shelter and at all vaccination clin- ics hosted by CHS throughout the coun- ty. Oregon Law (ORS 609.100) requires that every person owning or keeping any dog having a set of perma- nent canine teeth, or that is six months of age (whichever comes first) to be li- censed: Within 30 days after becoming the owner or keeper of said dog-- and yearly thereafter--to procure from the County a license for that dog. Dog licenses will run concur- rently with the rabies certificates. Coun- ty licenses will expire when the current rabies vaccine expires. There is a sixty day grace period, after which the owner will be subject to a late fee. Under Or- egon law, failure to license a dog can result in citations to appear in Court and fines up to $500. For the ease and convenience of Columbia County residents, these li- censes can be purchased during office hours on Tuesday-Thursday and Sat- urday-Sunday, between noon and 7:00 pm. If you have any questions, please call (503) 397-4353 or email info@co- lumbiahumane.org. Current proof of rabies vaccines must be provided at the time of license purchase. License fees are as follows: What’s Happening at the Vernonia Library Library is an Official Ballot Drop Site Ongoing Programs The Vernonia Public Library is an official ballot drop site.
