Robert W. Williams II
In Loving Memory
Robert W. Williams II of Verno-
nia, Oregon died peacefully on Septem-
ber 28, 2016 at the age of 55.
Rob is survived by his wife
Natalie, Vernonia; his son Robert Bar-
nett, Indiana; stepson Jeffrey Wilder,
New Jersey; stepdaughter Beth Wilder,
Florida; his sister Karen Hall, Vernonia;
and nephews Robert Hall, California and
Chris Hall, Nevada. He is preceded in
death by his mother and father, Robert
and Joann Williams.
Rob was born on February 20,
1961 in Castro Valley, CA and grew up
in Hayward CA. After attending high
school he joined the army where he was
trained as a Helicopter Maintenance
Engineer, serving in Germany. He was
a dedicated member of the American
Legion. After moving to Vernonia more
than 20 years ago he began working
for Oregon Steel Mill before opening
his own welding and metal fabrication
shop, Williams Metal Fab, in Vernonia.
His skilled craftsmanship can be found
in and around Vernonia. Rob married
Natalie Wilder in 2005. They enjoyed
friends, family, fishing, and Harley rides.
Rob was a wonderful man who
has helped others his entire life. He took
troubled kids under his wing and taught
them how to weld, gave them little jobs
to make money, or just a place to hang

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the
Vernonia Planning Commission, will
conduct a public hearing on a request
by Dennis Weller to divide an existing
parcel into 3 parcels. The existing
parcel has one home that has access
off Weed Avenue, the remainder of
the parcel is bare land. Two of the
new parcels will have access onto
Madison Avenue, and one parcel will
have access onto Weed Avenue.

SAID PUBLIC HEARING will be
held before the Vernonia Planning
Commission on Thursday, October
20 th , 2016, in the Council Chambers
of Vernonia City Hall, 1001 Bridge
Street, Vernonia, OR at or after
6:00pm, at which time proponents
and opponents of the proposed home
occupation will be heard.
A staff report will be available to the
public at City Hall one week before
the hearing, and may be copied for
a nominal fee. Failure to raise an
issue in a hearing, in person or by
letter or failure to provide statements
or evidence sufficient to afford the
decision-maker an opportunity to
respond to the issue precludes
appeal to the board based on that
issue. Public testimony is welcome,
and written statements will also be
received before the hearing.
The meeting location is accessible to
persons with disabilities. A request
for an interpreter for the hearing
impaired or for other accommodations

He valued the friendships he made with
everyone he met. He was passionate
about music, fishing, racing, and any-
thing with a motor.
A memorial is scheduled for
Saturday, October 15, 2016, 1:00 pm
at the Scout Cabin in Vernonia. All are
welcome to attend and celebrate Rob’s

Juanita M. Berndt
Juanita M. Berndt, 86, a long-
time former resident of the Vernonia
community, late of Hillsboro, died Sun-
day morning, September 11, 2016 at her
home.
Services have been held.

Juanita M. Berndt
Juanita Montangue Berndt was
born on June 16, 1930 in Vernonia, Or-
egon, the daughter of the late Daniel B.
and Florence M. (Montangue) Sabalino.
She was raised and received her educa-
tion in the Vernonia community.
She was united in marriage to
Oscar “Bruce” Berndt on December 12,
1975 in Hillsboro, Oregon. Following
their marriage they made their home in
Vernonia.
Juanita was preceded in death
by her husband Bruce on January 17,
2004 after celebrating over 28 years of
marriage together.
She worked alongside her hus-
band in their excavating company until
his retirement. Juanita worked in the
Birdseye Cannery, strawberry fields, and
orchards.
Juanita was a previous member
of the Vernonia Bible Church and the
Assembly of God Church in Vernonia.
She spent many years teaching Sunday
school. She was most known for teach-
ing Bible Club in her own home. She
loved to share her love for the Bible and
Jesus with others. She would pick chil-
dren up on Sunday and take them home
from Bible Club. Juanita did whatever it
took to share her Lord with others.
Late she moved to the Forest
Grove/Hillsboro area and attended nu-
merous churches and was faithful to the
end until her health kept her from attend-
ing.
Deeply religious, Juanita was
known for showing her faith to others as
a true example of God in her life.
Among her special interests she
enjoyed reading her Bible faithfully first
thing in the morning, followed by writ-
ing in her journal. Juanita loved garden-
ing. When she lived in Vernonia, she had
a Bonsai flower garden in her yard. She
loved all flowers and every color. Ask
her what her favorite flower was and
she would say “I love them all.” Juanita
