Readers Lend Their Voices...
To the Editor,
I have something I want to get
off my chest, and as a former Mayor,
I feel qualified to say it. I want you to
know the City is running wonderfully!!
WE have working for us a
fabulous staff, including City Hall,
Public Works, The Library, and the
Police Dept.
One of the reasons for our
success is due to a Council and Mayor
who are thoughtful and appreciate who
pays the bills. They spend our money
wisely.
But, most of all, we have a whiz
of a whiz for a City Administrator in
Josette Mitchell. I can sing her praises on
so many levels. We are very fortunate.
So, if the opportunity presents
itself, and you are so inclined, take a
moment to thank those who are working
so hard to make Vernonia the lovely
place we live in.

have required my full attention and made
retirement a necessity. I have worked in
this community for over ten years, and
although we don’t live in town, I have
always felt a part of it. This letter is long
overdue.
There are too many names
to list, so I want to thank the entire
community for the love, support, and
prayers that have been sent our way. We
don’t attend church, but you would think
we did with the outpouring of prayers
and cards we have received through
them. I am certain they have helped. I
have always felt like a giving person, but
I learned how important it is to also be a
gracious recipient as others can then feel
the fulfillment of giving. It does come
naturally to many in this community.
Thank you. Having been here for a while
I have seen others go through severe
hardships, and the people of Vernonia
always came through for them. Your
hearts are in the right place, we need
each other!
I guess along with thank you, I
want to encourage everyone to be nice
to each other. Being nice to people really
pays off. Being a good neighbor, holding
a door for someone, offering to help
when you see a need, or simply sharing
a smile and a kind word, all can make a
difference in someone’s life. You never
know what someone may be dealing

To the Editor,
I really, really, really don’t want
this job!
If WOEC members want a
real shot at lower electric rates, VOTE
FOR NICK GALADAY as District 5
Director! It’s election-time. Keep an eye
out for the WOEC ballot in the mail!
The mailing is ordinary, not particularly
noticeable. You’ll have to watch for it.
What is important is that you vote!!
Usually, only very few of
the several thousand members vote.
Directors stay in office for years, election
after election, simply because the same
two or three hundred people vote each
year. Make this time different. Time
to bring WOEC into the 21st century.
WOEC needs new blood.
After watching the presidential
campaign party conventions Bev and I
got into a discussion about the difference
between ambition and avarice. And the
fact anyone seeking to become a public
servant at any level has to have at least
a little ambition. I, on the other hand,
have unlimited ennui! And that’s not
funny, if you equate my level of ennui
with laziness. I’m no one to be running
for public service!
But: Since moving to the
WOEC service area 10 years ago I’ve

Featured Pet
Draco has been in the shelter system
going on a year. He came to us in
January and was adopted for a
couple weeks but returned for not
sharing toys with the other dog in the
home. He would do best in an adult
home with no other pets. He is a
cattle dog/pitbull mix and is approxi-
mately 3 years old. He is a loyal dog
with lots of love to give.
