Vernonia High School Receives
Exchange Year Global Excellence Award
Vernonia High School received
national recognition for excellence in
global education from EF High School
Exchange Year, the leader in high school
exchange.
The EF High School Exchange
Year Global Education Excellence
Award is presented annually to
high schools that demonstrate
an extraordinary commitment to
international understanding and global
awareness. Vernonia High School was
one of a select group of high schools
recognized across the United States for
the 2015-16 school year.
Vernonia High School has shown
an outstanding commitment to offering
a global education. By welcoming
exchange students into the classrooms,
Vernonia High School has created new
and unique learning opportunities not
just for the exchange students, but for
American students and faculty as well.
This year Vernonia High School
welcomed one EF High School Exchange
Year student. Not only was Elisabeth
Kreuter accepted into the school, but
she also became an integral part of the
school’s academic and extracurricular
life, involving the greater community in
the exchange program.
Liz, from Germany, was able to
take part in the Equestrian Club and be
a cheerleader for the high school sports
program. Her host parents, Kinnell and
Jon Steward, felt very lucky to have
Liz, since she is the sister of one of their
previous exchange students.
Local exchange coordinator,
Gail Moore, added, “We thank Vernonia
High School for welcoming this
year’s student. The community and
Exchange student Liz Kreuter with
VHS principal Nate Underwood.
visiting student shared an unforgettable
experience thanks to the generosity
of Vernonia Schools’ administration,
teachers, students and families.
Headquartered in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, EF High School
Exchange Year has been committed to
promoting international understanding
and global awareness for over 35 years.
The organization brings more students
to the United States each year than any
other high school exchange program.
Since 1979, EF High School Exchange
Year has matched more that 100,000
enthusiastic students from around the
world with caring host families across
the United States.
