in other words/schools Your Horoscope for May 2016 By Stacey Lynn The heavy energy of last month is dropping away. Relax a little and get ready for the sunshine! Taurus (April 20-May 20) Windfalls and financial opportunities are seeking you out. You have to show up. You’re spending on yourself and creating a perception of wealth. People watch you as prosperous. ‘Gift horses’ need more scrutiny and might not be all that they appear. Don’t make critical financial decisions until after the 22nd. Gemini (May 21-June 20) The good news is that you’re entering your period of maximum personal power and independence. Love is exactly what it is. You can’t please everybody. Time to please yourself. Time to take control of your own happiness. Time to create conditions that make you happy. From the 22nd on is best. Cancer (June 21-July 22) It is time to take responsibility for your own happiness. Personal power is getting stronger day by day. Now – and for the next few months – is the time to make the personal changes you need to make. You don’t need to worry about what others think or feel. They will, in due course, come on over to your way of thinking. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22) The 22nd to the 25th seem exceptionally good financial days. Your financial judgement is sound and practical. Best to avoid unnecessary foreign travel. If not, expect delays. Take time to listen to others right from the start. This insures success as well as harmony. Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept 22) Happy travel opportunities are happen- ing. Take an interest in studies. In general, even those who are not stu- dents are more interested in higher learning this month. Happy oppor- tunities come and you should take them. Your to-do list may be longer, but it is full of things you love. Libra (Sept 23- Oct. 22) This is a very good financial period – especially until the 20th. You have faced many Schools Update: Alumni Softball Field By Aaron Miller Vernonia High School’s new Alumni Field was initiated with a win on Tuesday, April 26 as the Lady Log- gers softball team beat Willamina 14-8. This contest was the first game played on the new field which was built primar- ily with donations from alumni through the Vernonia Education Foundation’s (VEF) Sports Initiative fund. Prior to the game a dedication ceremony was held with many thanks going out to those involved in the fund- raising and construction of the new fa- cility. The stands were full and many people brought their lawn chairs to par- ticipate in the event. Alum and VEF Board Member Jim Eckland threw out the first pitch. Mr. Eckland has been instrumental in leading the charge to raise funds to in- stall our sports fields on the new cam- pus. His efforts were rewarded with the win on our new softball field. Special thanks go to the follow- ing companies and individuals for their help with fundraising and construction: Jim and Kathy Eckland, Robert Watts Construction, Senator Betsy Johnson, West Oregon Electric, Everfin Energy, Brian Grey at Knife River, Don Wal- lace at KLS Surveying, The City of Vernonia, Mark Brown, Eli Everett, Joe Walters, Dan Titus and all of our alumni who have contributed to the VEF Sports Initiative. In addition to the softball field construction, bids will soon be solicited for construction of the new baseball field. Funds for this project were made available through generous donations from Evelyn Holce and Randy Holce. Construction on this project should be complete by fall of 2016. You’re still in the midst of a yearly love and social peak. The 10th to the 14th seem exceptionally good for love. If there have been discords with friends or current love, now is the time to restore the harmony. Skillful social relations will enhance your bottom line. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) Mars, still in your own sign until the 27th, is complicating social life. Mars can make a person too self-willed, too impatient and prone to anger. You are ready for adventure but problems keep arising. Do not ignore them. Deal with them as they come, for they aren’t going away unless you do. Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 19) Health is considerably improved this month. You are back in fine form, feeling grounded and purposeful. You are most powerful in service to others. They will be your voice singing your may5 2016 15 praises. There is a happy travel opportunity from the 22nd to the 25th. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) New and favorable opportunities are coming, although most probably with a delayed reaction. Fresh opportunities need more research. This is a period where love is shown by emotional support. Your stubborn streak is showing. You’re tired of your tolerance being mistaken for weakness. Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) Health is more stressed. You have a lot of planets in stressful alignment with you this month. Just try to schedule massages during lunch breaks or after work. Earnings will happen but with more delays and glitches. Your love life from the 22nd to the 25th seems especially favorable. Aries ( March 21-April 19) You have energy, health, money and love – you just lack direction. This is a time for gaining clarity about who you are and where you want to go. It might be a good idea to take a break from the everyday routine. It is a big time for parties and festivities, and especially valuable for spiritual work.
