VHS Spring Sports Report
Softball – The Lady
Loggers continued their
run through District 1
opponents and remain
undefeated in league
play with a 10-0 record.
Overall Vernonia has a
13-1 record.
The
Lady
Loggers are not just
winning their games, they
are destroying teams,
defeating
Delphian
22-1 and 30-0, before
sweeping three games
from Neah-Kah-Nie 32-
1, 11-1, 14-1. The Lady
Loggers kicked off their
three game series with
Gaston with a 8-2 win on
Tuesday, April 19.
Vernonia
is
obviously using big
bats and strong pitching
to win this season, but
they are also playing
extremely well in the
field defensively.
The
Lady
Loggers will host Gaston
for
a
doubleheader
on Friday, April 22,
scheduled to be played at
the new Alumni Softball
Field at the new school
campus.
They face
Willamina at home in
a non-league matchup
on Tuesday, April 26,
and travel to Dayton for
another non-league game
on Tuesday, May 3.

The Loggers continue
to get strong pitching
from Bailey Morrison
and Brett Elliot and
are hitting the ball well
throughout the lineup.
The
Loggers
will
complete their series
against Gaston with a
double header on Friday,
April 22 and then start a
three game series against
Faith Bible with a home
double header on Friday,

should
be
looking
towards a season ending

state contenders Knappa.

ranked third in the state;
Vernonia plays a home
double
header
with
Knappa on Friday, May

Track and Field – The

Robert Connor, despite being
sidelined with hamstring pulls, has still
recorded the fastest times in the state in
the 100 and 200 meters and anchored
the 4x100 team. Brett Jones, Arne
Shiemann and Francesco Mian have
been dominating the Northwest League
in the high jump and gives the team a
chance to sweep this event at district.
Steve Burns, Devon Shay, and Jake
Harbour have been impressive in several
running events and give the team much
needed depth.
On the girls team, Justine Larue
has been a real leader and competes
in the long jump, the 100, 200, and
400 meters. Andrea Castano has been
impressive in the 800 meters, 2nd in
league with a good shot at winning the
district championship, and 4x400 relay
team.
The team has four meets left
before the District Meet May 13 and
14. “We have many outstanding athletes
on our team this year and we have the
ability to accomplish great things,” says
head coach Byron Brown.
