Pollinators
Attention Youth
with Small Animals!
Saturday, January 23, 2016, there will be a Small Animal Learning
Day at the Columbia County Fairgrounds for youth ages 5 to 19. The event
starts at 9 am and wraps up around 4 pm. This entry level workshop is
designed to inform and explain lots of the ins and outs of the 4-H Small
Animal projects. 4-H membership is not required. There will be educational
clinics and showmanship with rabbits, cavies (guinea pigs), and poultry.
This is a perfect chance to get involved with your small animals. Youth will
also have the opportunity to consider project animals that will be for sale;
all animals will have been judged for show quality and potential.
Registration forms are located at the OSU Extension Service at 505
N. Columbia River Hwy, St. Helens, 503-397-3462 and on their website.
The cost is $5 day of show. Come ready for an exciting day! If you have
any questions, please call Marianne 503-308-3853.

organizational changes. We are looking forward to
great things for the shelter and animals of the Co-

stop in during our new business hours, which are
Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 7 pm, and
Saturday and Sunday from noon to 7 pm. The ani-
mals love to have the public come in and pay them
a visit. Perhaps you will find that new forever friend
today!
At this time we would like to take the oppor-
tunity to welcome our new Program Manager, Lisa

The Columbia County Extension Service
is hosting the speaker for the county’s Master
Gardener’s January meeting.
The speaker will be Horticulturalist Neil
Bell from Oregon State University Extension
Service in Marion County, with his topic of
choosing the right plants and designing the right
plantings for pollinators. With bees and other
pollinators at some risk, this program will show
how gardeners can support these species by the
landscape plant materials they choose.
It is free and open to the public and will be
held at St. Helens High School’s Loo-Wit Room
on Thursday, January 28th at 6:30 pm.

Featured Pet
Beggio. Lisa has worked at the shelter for 15 years,
has a great working knowledge of shelter operations,
animal behavior, and a sense of what this commu-
nity needs in order to help improve the animal wel-
fare of Columbia County. Lisa looks forward to her
continued work with the Columbia Humane Society,
and hopes to make your visit to the shelter a positive
one. Feel free to stop in and meet her, and to share
any ideas you might have for helping her and us up-
hold and further the mission of the shelter.
As always, without the continued support of
our community our little shelter would not be able
to move forward each year. We are proud to say that
we helped house and rehome 1,200 animals in 2015,
and look forward to the impact we can make in the
animal world in 2016. Please continue
to donate at www.columbiahumane.
org, or in person at the shelter, located at
2084 Oregon Street, St. Helens, Oregon,
97051.
Meet Bo. He is a gentle and fun loving
guy that is looking for a new forever
home. He is about 11 years old, gets
along great with other dogs and would
just prefer a place to retire. He is in
great health, other than the cataracts
in his eyes. He is friendly and very
mellow. Stop in and meet this love bug
today. His adoption fee has been
reduced to $75.00 to help this senior
find his way into a new forever home.
