Patricia Ruth Calkins White Patricia R. “Pat” White, 89, of Forest Grove, died Saturday morning, December 12, 2015 at The Grove Assisted Living Center in Forest Grove, Oregon. Services have been held. Patricia Ruth White was born September 15, 1926 in Gresham, Oregon, the daughter of the late Joseph Edison Calkins and Evalena (Hall) Calkins. At the age of ten years old she moved to western Washington County with her family, having attended Mountaindale Elementary School and later Laurelwood Academy her freshman year. She was united in marriage to Robert Warden White on August 17, 1945 in Vancouver, WA. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past August. Following their marriage they resided in the communities of Hillsboro, Cornelius, Vernonia, and Christmas Valley. In May of 2013, they moved to The Grove Assisted Living Center in Forest Grove, to be near their family. Pat was a true homemaker. She loved growing, canning, and freezing much of the food that she would need to support her large family. She was a long standing member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was active in the local church of the communities they resided. Pat had worked as the church secretary for the congregations in Vernonia and Christmas Valley. Among her special interests she enjoyed writing poetry, drawing, painting and gardening. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Calkins and Evalena Perkins and her daughter, Patricia Irene White, and her siblings, William Ezra, Bonnie Nadine, JoAnne Ruth, and step siblings Robert Calkins, Nellie Harrison, and Patricia “Patty” Core. Survivors include her husband, Robert White, of Forest Grove, Oregon; eight of her nine children and their spouses, Eva Cochran, Vernonia, Oregon; Robert E. “Bob” White, Gresham, Oregon; Carlena White, Cornelius, Oregon; Allen and Judy White, Beaverton, Oregon; Roberta “Bobbie” McMahon, Medford, Oregon; Jennifer “Jenny” and Sonny Koo, Portland, Oregon; Melissa “Missy” and Karl Knapp, Sweet Home, Oregon; Leioni Clark, Laguna Niguel, California and Ella Hight, Winnemucca, Nevada and her two brothers and a sister-in- law, Ray Calkins, and John and Barbara Calkins, Aurora, Oregon and one brother and a sister-in-law Burt and Uiva, Longview, WA. Also surviving are twenty- two grandchildren, thirty-six great- grandchildren, eleven great-great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research, 1500 S.W. 1st Avenue, Suite 270, Portland, Oregon, 97201 in her memory. He has been especially impressed with the improve- ment and play of sophomore Morgan Harral, who has earned more playing time because of her aggressive play. Leire Valladares has secured the starting point guard position. Whiteman says she is playing extremely well and has not been afraid to take charge of the game. Junior Payton Wolf is also seeing some minutes at the point and is gaining experience for next season. Vivianna Bustamante is playing well and has a good outside shot and the ability to drive the lane and create offensive opportunities. Jocie Roberts has shown a lot of improvement this season and has been a solid contributor to the team. Freshman Joyce Everett has also earned some minutes through her good play. Whiteman says outside shoot- ing has been a strength for his team. Against defending 1A state champions Damascus Christian the team hit, what Whiteman said was a school record, 12 of 25 three point attempts. The Lady Loggers hit the road for their next several league contests with road matchups at Knappa, Columbia Christian, Nestucca and Gaston, before returning home on January 19 to face Country Christian.
