Zackri Charles “Zack” Owen on to obtain his contractor’s license Vernon E. “Vern” Caldwell Zackri Charles Owen, 50, a former resident of the Vernonia community, late of New Orleans, Louisiana, died February 27, 2015 at his home in New Orleans. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Grace Family Fellowship, 967 State Avenue in Vernonia, Oregon; with the Pastor John Cahill, of the Pioneer Baptist Fellowship Church, conducting. Private Family Burial Rites followed at 3:00 PM at the Owen Family Ranch Cemetery in Timber, Oregon. Family and friends were invited to attend a reception immediately following the church ceremony in the fellowship room of the church. ZACKRI CHARLES “ZACK” OWEN was born December 14, 1964 in Portland, Oregon, the son of William D. Owen and Lois L. Brown (Owen). He was raised and received his education in the Vernonia community. He moved to New Orleans in 2006 where he has resided since. Zack had previously worked in the granite and tile industry and went working for himself in home remodels. Among his special interests he enjoyed time with his family, his friends and especially enjoyed his English Bulldogs, “Nutmeg” “Lulu” “Oreo” and Kujo”. Crazy Uncle Zack was a favorite amongst his nephews and nieces and kept the family shaking their heads wondering what was going to happen next.... Zack was quick to remind us all that he “Was a legend.” Zackri was preceded in death by brothers, Levi and Zeb Owen. Survivors include his father, William D. Owen and step-mother, Nancy of Redmond, Oregon; his mother, Lois L. Brown (Owen) of Vernonia, Oregon; his sons Zack, Levi, Zayne and Sawyer and daughters, Keyanna Marie Owen-Schoolcraft, Chloe Owen Dennis, and Ruby; 3 grandchildren, Annabella Marie Owen; Zayne Charles Vernon Owen, Jr. and Levi Owen, Jr; his two brothers and sisters-law, Tracy C. and Linda Owen, of Powell Butte, Oregon; Cole and Lynn Owen, of Redmond, Oregon; his five sisters and brothers-in- law, Mikele L. “Miki” Owen of Vernonia, Oregon; Daryl M. Owen of Vernonia, Oregon; Jefri J. and John Balderson of Council, Idaho; Bennette J. and Jeff Watts of Vernonia, Oregon; Ezra Owen and Travis Koch, of Hillsboro, Oregon. Vernon E. “Vern” Caldwell, 77, a longtime resident of the Banks community, died Thursday evening, March 12, 2015 at the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro, Oregon. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Forest Grove, with Mr. Ed Willer, conducting. Family and friends were invited to attend a reception immediately following the ceremony. Private Interment Rites were held on Friday March 20, 2015, at the Union Point Cemetery, 41500 N.W. Banks Road in Banks, Oregon. VERNON EDWARD “VERN” CALDWELL was born March 9, 1938 in Hillsboro, Oregon, the son of the late Earl Joseph Caldwell and Lily May (Luke) Caldwell. He was raised and received his education in the Banks community, having been a graduate of the Banks High School Class of 1956. He was united in marriage to Sharon L. Stoller on May 29, 1959 in Aloha, Oregon. Following their marriage they lived in El Paso, Texas for six months, while Vern was serving in the military. Following his discharge, they moved to the Banks community, where they have resided since. Vern worked as a truck driver most of his life. He began by hauling meat for Kummer Meat Company in Hillsboro, drove truck for Shell Oil Company and later Shadybrook Lumber. He also bought his own truck and spent some time driving across the western United States. In October of 1985, he bought his first self-loading log truck and established V & S Log Express Company in Banks. He and his son Jerry have owned and operated the business for the past thirty years. He was an active member of the North Cornelius Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Forest Grove. Among his special interests he enjoyed traveling, as well as car restoration. He was a member of the Crown Victoria and Model A Car Clubs. From his youth on he enjoyed family activities like going clam digging, hunting trips, and attending rodeos, his favorite being the Pendleton Round-up. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lily Caldwell and his brother, Gerald Caldwell. Vern is survived by his wife, Sharon Caldwell, of the family home in Banks, Oregon; his three sons and daughter. The sons and daughters-in- law are, David and Katie Caldwell, of Banks, Oregon; Jerry and Tammy Caldwell, of Banks, Oregon; Kenneth and Gaye Caldwell, of Portland, Oregon and his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Wayne Newman, of Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Christopher Caldwell, of Banks, Oregon; Melissa Caldwell, of Kihei Maui, Hawaii; Tommy and his wife Amanda Caldwell, of Forest Grove, Oregon and Jeremy Caldwell, of Banks, Oregon; his two great-grandchildren, Michael and Haleigh Caldwell and eight nieces and nephews.
