announcements/in other words Congratulations... Fennel/Stevens Engagement Things To Ponder: Do You Believe? By Grant Williams Brian and Brandi Fennell of Vernonia and Ewan and Teresa McLean of Clatskanie are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter MaCayla Fennell of Vernonia to Jacob Stevens, also of Verno- nia. Mr. Stevens is the son of Rocky and Jeanne Hill of Vernonia and Justin and Michelle Stevens of Tualatin. Mr. Stevens is employed at Express Employ- ment Professionals. Miss Fennell is employed at the Northwest Regional ESD. A date for the wedding has not yet been deter- mined. It will be held in Vernonia. The couple is currently awaiting the birth of their first child. november6 One of my favorite Bible writers is the Apostle John. His Gospel paints a picture of Jesus Christ as God in the flesh, revealed to show us who and what God is like. Every page of John’s Gospel teaches truths that help us understand how special we are to God and how much He loves us. On one occasion, after the death of her brother Lazarus, Jesus told Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26) In this passage Jesus assures Martha that He is the Master of life and death. He proclaims to have and be the key to all the mysteries of life (now) and death (the future). He alone has lived on earth and in heaven and knows what happens when a person dies. She grieved the death of her brother, but Jesus assured her there is more than what meets the eye. He told her that faith in Him was stronger than physical death and she need not fear. Even though the body may perish the spirit is eternal and nothing can rob us of life, not even death. Jesus told her that faith (belief) in Him was essential to never dying. Having faith in Christ means putting your trust in His promises and believing that He is who He claimed to be. He was and remains the single revelation of God that is trustworthy. No one else has ever been in the presence of God and told us that He alone knows what God requires. Many have claimed to know God’s will, but Christ alone has seen both sides of life and tells us we have no hope outside of faith in Him. Every other religious leader who has walked the earth remains in their grave except Christ who said “I am the resurrection and the life.” Martha trusted Jesus, but remained broken hearted because 2014 17 her brother was dead, sealed in a tomb. The story is far from over though, because in verse 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” He then called out to Lazarus (verse 43), “Come out” and the dead man appeared to the crowd standing on the hillside watching intently. The “Good News” is that Jesus still extends the invitation and asks the question, “Do you believe this?” Jesus is not asking you to become part of a religious movement, but offering you the opportunity to enter into a personal relationship with the only true God who shed His blood so we could be forgiven and made right with our Heavenly Father. Life is short and we must make all our important decisions while we can still draw breath. Have you investigated the claims of Christ? He gave His life in exchange for ours so we could experience real life. Come and see for yourself, Jesus is patiently waiting! Bridge Street Bits WOW, am I reading my calendar right? It’s November already and just few quick weeks left till 2015. As always the New Year brings about changes in some area or another and for us here at the Center will be no different! Come on in and see how you can be a part of this! A SCREAMING good time was had by all on October 29 here at our gathering place for fun. Costume contest, great food, great music by the Golden Oldies, Pam Weller from Wuana Credit Union serving birthday ice cream, and lots of shopping in our thrift store. Add Michelle Moore in the mix, serving seniors that day with Medicare information, and we had a well rounded day. Congratulation to our costume contest winners: Tommy Sherman for the gents and Karen Miller for the ladies. THANKSGIVING DINNER at the Senior Center, Wednesday, November 19. A big Thank You to US Bank for donating the turkeys. Come listen to the Golden Oldies that day as well. WE HOPE you tech savvy seniors check out our Facebook page for senior happenings. Add your two cents worth as well. Now, come to think of it, two cents adds up in time. We might get our new building faster YET! SANTA CLAUS made an early appearance at our party as well: Come in and see if he (or SHE... Vernonia Senior Center 446 Bridge Street couldn’t tell) left some thrift store goodies for locals to glean. OH, not to leave out our PACKED and I mean PACKED day on Monday Oct. 27th for our Five Area Luncheon. Seniors from our five different centers, Clatskanie, Rainier, St. Helens, Scappoose, and Vernonia meet on the last Monday of the month at each different center to enjoy some fun together. At our gathering Monday we had a 50-50 money ticket raffle: the winner went to a spry 100 year old... we young ‘uns are so inspired by our older honored seniors!
