Leebrick will share his storytelling with kids at Vernonia Public Library on July 15 at 10:00 AM; Rainier City Library on July 24 at 11:00 AM; and Clatskanie Library on August 13 at 1:00 PM. Drawn from his large multicultural repertoire, Leebrick’s programs include world folk tales, original stories, narrative poetry, whoppers and jump tales. He sets the mood for many of his tales with instruments such as the harmonica, the tambourine and the eastern cedar flute. The performance is part of Fizz Boom Save!, a statewide campaign that encourages kids and teens to participate in summer reading at their local library as a way to retain their reading skills over the summer. A partnership between the Oregon College Savings Plan, the Oregon State Library and the Oregon Library Association, Fizz Boom Save! also offers families a chance to win a $529 Oregon College Savings Plan account, plus $500 for the winner’s library. Up to 15 winners — three from each Oregon congressional district — will be selected in a random drawing at the conclusion of the program. While at the libraries enjoying the performances, Oregon parents/guardians/grandparents are encouraged to enroll their children in the 2014 Summer Reading Program, then fill out a postage-paid Fizz Boom Save! entry card, available at the library, and drop it in the mail. All entries must be postmarked by August 22 and received by August 29. Visit OregonCollegeSavings.
