In Memory of... continued from page 20 born on January 26, 1925 in Portland, Oregon, the son of the late Albert and May (Reed) Krieger. He was raised and received his education in the Vernonia community. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. Ralph joined on July 15, 1943. He served for three years until receiving his honorable discharge on February 16, 1946 at the rank of First Sgt. He was united in marriage to Evelyn L. Stevenson on April 19, 1947 in Portland, Oregon. They celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary this past April. Following their marriage they made their home in the Vernonia community until 1993, when they moved to the Forest Grove community, where they have resided since. Ralph worked as a Shingle Sawyer for the Ed Miller Sawmill in Vernonia for sixteen years. He and his brother later purchased their father’s shingle mill in Vernonia, which they owned and operated for several years. Ralph then worked as a log truck driver for Crown Zellerbach Company in Vernonia for twenty-five years, until he retired at the age of sixty years old. He also owned and operated his own log truck also for several years. Among his special interests, he enjoyed traveling and camping and he had a special love for spending time with his family. They also thoroughly enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Arizona for the past twenty years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and May Krieger and his three brothers, Harold Krieger, Bud Krieger and Bill Krieger. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn L. Krieger, of the family home in Forest Grove, Oregon; his four children and their spouses, Marsha King, of Springfield, Oregon; Kevin and Irma Krieger, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Jeff and Bonnie Krieger, of Manning, Oregon and Mark and Ronda Krieger, of Chugiak, Alaska; his brother and sister- in-law, Marvin and Vaughn Krieger, of Goldendale, Washington and his sister, Evelyn Spofford, of Republic, Washington. Also surviving are his six grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa Krieger, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Troy Krieger, of Tigard, Oregon; Travis and Christy Krieger, of Aloha, Oregon; Tony and Amie Krieger, of Vernonia, Oregon; Ryan and Shannon Krieger, of Anchorage, Alaska and Colin Krieger, of Anchorage, Alaska and her three great-grandchildren, Kiley Meisner; Ava Krieger and Saraphine Krieger, and numerous nieces and nephews. Elspbeth J. “Beth” Peters Elspbeth J. “Beth” Peters, 75, a resident of the Vernonia community, died Thursday morning, July 25, 2013 at Providence St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Portland. A Wake will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 1 P.M. at Vici and Brian’s Vacation Rental, 849 Bridge Street in Vernonia. ELSPBETH JEAN “BETH” PETERS was born on September 11, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Hopkins) Swannie. She was raised and attended grade school in Glascow, Scotland, and moved with her family to the United States, attending school in Boise, Spokane and Lake Oswego, where she graduated with Lake Oswego High School Class of 1955. Upon her graduation she attended Chemeketa Community College in Salem where she received her Associate of Arts Degree in Human Resources Technology. She was united in marriage to the late Edward Allen Peters in 1955 obituaries august15 2013 in Portland, Oregon. Following their marriage they made their homes in Lake Oswego, Stafford and Salem. They later divorced. She resided in Rockaway Beach, Oregon for twenty years until 2010, when she moved to the Vernonia community, and resided with her son. Beth worked as an Human Resources Executive for Bill Meising in Portland for eight years. Among her special interests she enjoyed sailing, Beth is preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth (Hopkins) Swannie. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Thyra Peters, of Vernonia, Oregon; and her two daughters and a son-in-law, Valerie Peters, of Vernonia, Oregon and Victoria Peters and Brian McKernan, of Vernonia, Oregon. Also surviving are her three grandchildren, John Granholm, of Cocoa Beach, Florida; Dannette Peters, of Forest Grove, Oregon and Brandon Peters, of Hillsboro, Oregon; her three step-grandchildren, Karen Kullberg, of Milwaukie, Oregon; Amy Balcom, of Milwaukie, Oregon and Julie Kullberg, of Portland, Oregon; her three great grandchildren, Caleb Butler; Allie Cortez and Kaylee Peters and her three step-great-grandchildren, Bailey Marie Balcom; Jayden Balcom and Colt Huskey.
