This will be the last Inkwell series of articles. I will regretfully be moving out of the area. I am blessed to have been a part of this remarkable community and to have contributed to this amazing newspaper, Vernonia’s Voice. Thank you for your interest and your contributions, and I encourage all of the budding and learned poets out there to keep expressing, keep writing, keep contributing to this amazing universal story we all share. Below is a poem written around 2000 years ago. Imagine that! Our human connection is everlasting. Let us honor our connection with one another and each moment that builds to create the story of our lives. THE INKWELL Ode I.ll Leucon, no one’s allowed to know his fate, Not you, not me: don’t ask, don’t hunt for answers In tea leaves or palms. Be patient with whatever comes. This could be our last winter, it could be many More, pounding the Tuscan Sea on these rocks: Do what you must, be wise, cut your vines And forget about hope. Translated by Burtaon Raffel Your Horoscope for August 2013 By Ms. Luna Now is the perfect time to get out and enjoy the sunshine! Leo (July 23- August 22) Share your sunny smile and enjoy the added popularity that comes with this burst of fresh energy. Communication will flow freely as long as you initiate discussions. Do you feel pushed to the max at work? Keep your cool. Snap decisions could lead to regrets. Check your credit report for possible errors. Nurturing instead of leading brings you satisfaction. Virgo (August 24- September 22) Put regrets behind you and look forward with optimism. Your powers of attraction are at their finest. Be careful what you wish for because you’ll probably get it! Stay tuned for good news near the 30th. There will be an opportunity to shine at the work place. Plan ahead and budget your time well, if asked for a loan, chances are you will not be repaid. Monitor your children’s activities. Sagittarius (November 22- December 21) Travel could be in the forecast for later in the month. Friendships are accented from the 16th on. Arrange inexpensive outings and only pay your fair share. If you are job hunting, don’t be tempted to exaggerate your skills and experience. Stick to the facts. A financial matter could require immediate attention. Check your credit report for errors. Try the lottery on the 7th and 21st. Capricorn (December 22- January 19) Vacation planning is perfect. At issue will be your desire for change, but try not to make any hasty decisions. There will be no way to reverse your impulsive actions. Finances are the main focus for the month. Mid-month you need to be conservative in spending and the use of credit. Work life will be up and down. Change in this area is possible. You will have an opportunity to lay the groundwork for future gains. This is not a time of partnerships, no matter how well you know the person. Aquarius (January 20- February 18) August 6th’s new moon accents partnership and other close relationships. Be cautious about major financial decisions and purchases. Read all the fine print. A sudden job-related opportunity could pop up this month. Keep your options open. You might also need to travel to assist a relative near the month’s end. Take extra care on the road. Pisces (February 19- March 20) August will be hectic at times. Rest, relaxation, and sleep will help you maintain top energy. You will benefit from spending time alone to read, enjoy a hobby, or get lost in your own thoughts. You will easily connect with people in every area of life, but be cautious the last week of the month when someone could stretch the truth. Unexpected expenses are possible at month’s end. Safeguard valuables and financial information, especially when in public. Aries (March 21-April 19) August is the right moment to plan a family day trip to the park or beach. You will enjoy it as much as the children. You will have an opportunity to get together with all the pals you missed in July. Work will go smoothly if you take time to clarify directions and projects. Cover your bases. It’s taking action that is meaningful to you, even if it is minor. an after-work get-together where you can network. Steer clear of difficult coworkers and try not to gossip. Someone may have an ulterior motive. Strive to be satisfied with the world you create. Gemini (May 21-June 20) You have a need for fresh scenery. Plan a vacation or a long weekend away. A friend’s words could inspire you mid-month, but a talk with a coworker could upset your day near the 11th. Think calm thoughts. You could see unexpected expenses pop up related to children. Think carefully if a friend asks for a loan or to co- sign. The odds are you won’t be repaid. Cancer (June 21- July 22) Give yourself the gift of a couple days off this month. It will refresh you, body and soul. Update your budget and analyze spending and saving habits. You could profit from a yard sale or taking items to a consignment shop. Beware that someone may tell you what you want to hear. As tempting as it will be to handle everything yourself, a better choice is to seek help from those you trust. Taurus (April 20-May 20) Now is a good time to organize paperwork, unclutter, and plan fall home improvements Vernonia’s Voice is published on projects. The time is ideal for going on an outing. You may meet people through a club or organization. Career activity is hectic and you will have a tendency to push yourself too hard. When conflicts arise around you, you will be the one who can guide others to compromise. Stay happy, you can’t lose. Scorpio (October 23- November 21) Host a dinner party for a few close friends and enjoy the last few days of summer. Don’t believe everything you hear near the 25th, especially if a friend wants to share gossip. You could receive a job offer or be encouraged to apply for a promotion. Consider this offer seriously. Be cautious behind the wheel this month.
