community/classified ads june6 Election Results: Columbia County Approves 9-1-1 Levy Columbia County voters over- whelmingly approved the renewal of the 9-1-1 operations levy in the May 21st election. Voters voted by an 85% to 15% margin to renew funding for five years for daily operations of the 9-1-1 emergency call and dispatch center. In local elections for Verno- nia School Board, all incumbents were re-elected, including Jim Krahn, Ernie Smith and Carrie Levenseller all candi- dates ran unopposed. Columbia County was still waiting for official results from Washington County before they could declare a winner for Position 6. No can- didate filed for the position, but Brett Costley and Brittanie Roberts both re- ceived write in votes. Costley was lead- ing 36 to 28 with just about a dozen votes to be included from Washington County. In elections for the Vernonia Rural Fire Protection District Board of Direc- tors, Luke Ellis was elected to Position 5 receiving 231 votes; Micheal Demeter received 216. Ben Davis was elected to Position 1 running unopposed. In elections for the Mist-Birken- Endangered Species Word Puzzle feld Rural Fire Protection District Board of Directors, Joan Jones, William De- Jager, and Patricia Wright were all elect- ed, having run unopposed. Position 5 had 21 write-in votes. COMMUNITY OPEN SPACES The City will conduct public meetings to develop a plan for long term use of the land acquired through the FEMA acquisition projects in numerous neighborhoods in the City. A formal public hearing process is a requirement of one of the funding sources used to complete upwards of forty (40) individual real estate acquisition transactions. When Oregon Infrastructure Finance Authority Community Development Block Grant funds were used in conjunction with other funding sources for these transactions, a requirement to use public process to establish the long term use was created – call it a string.
