RICKEY DEAN “RICKSTER” LOVING was born on May 30, 1966 in Newport, Oregon, the son of Victor and Beverly (Bruton) Loving. He was raised and received his education in the Toledo, OR community, having been a graduate with Toledo High School Class of 1984. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served one enlistment until receiving his discharge. Rick worked in the timber industry for many years, more recently for Gwin Logging in Vernonia and they became his second family. Rick loved the outdoors; walking in the woods, camping, swimming, star gazing and sitting around a campfire. Summer was his favorite time of year. He is survived by his parents, Vic and Bev Loving, of La Pine, OR; his son Casey Loving, of Salem, OR; his daughter, Jessica Loving, of Eugene, OR; his two brothers, Victor Loving, of Bend, OR and Corey Loving, of Toledo, OR; his longtime companion, Patti Ogden, of Vernonia, OR and his aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Wayne Bailey, of Mist, OR. Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Charlie, Brody and Kaiden and five nieces and nephews. Senior Center Activities 5-Area Luncheon: Monday, January 28 at the Scappoose Senior Center Week Day Lunches: The Vernonia Senior Center offers nutritious and tasty lunches each weekday for a $4 dona- tion for seniors over 60; cost is $5 for anyone under 60. To-go meals are available for $5. These are available to the public, not just Senior Citi- zens. (Mealtime is noon; late arrivals may not be served.) You can reserve your lunch by calling by 11:15 AM, or further in advance if possible, to assist the cooks as they pre- pare the day’s meals. Meals on Wheels are available for a $4 donations for seniors over 60. Please contact the Senior Center for an application. Maple Bars available lo- cally! Connie King, the cook at the Senior Center, is making maple bars each day. The maple bars are available to the public, too, and only cost $1 each. Availability is subject to quantity on hand. You can assure yourself of a good supply by pre-ordering them directly from Connie by calling the Senior Center (503-429-3912) any week day, from 7:00 AM-3:00 PM. Please allow one day lead time for larger orders. The Center’s front door opens at 9:00, but the side parking lot door opens at 7:00. Ah, sweet treats! Thrift Store: Bargain prices can be found in Vernonia’s Senior Center Thrift Store. The retail store is open Mon- day through Friday, from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The Thrift Store provides funds for the Senior Center’s fa- cility and its many activi- ties. Donations can also be dropped off during those same hours. Donated clothes need to be clean and in good Church News and Events By Mark Brown Good day to you Vernonia, I first have a correction to the last article regarding authority. While reading it back, it may have read that I was suggesting the church had final authority. If that was the case I am sorry. The final authority always is with God and expressed in the Word of the author Himself. To seek the will and mind of God can only be found in and through the prayerful direction of the Holy Spirit. Writing this column came to me by someone who believed it was important and hoped that this might be a way to and for us, as the church, to connect to one another and the community. If I were to grade myself on continuing what he had begun, I would have to say I failed. For that reason and others I am retiring from this charge. So it is that I thank all of you and praise God for this opportunity. I know it has not been in a failure because God’s Word never returns to Him void! If there is someone who is willing to take this on and bring the news of what is going on in the faith based community in Vernonia, let Scott know. I hope you are able to reach the church and get us more involved with one another, sharing what is going on. For people who are not, to ask questions or express honest ideas and suggestions for the church. I have enjoyed talking with you all. I will continue to fill in until someone expresses a desire to pick this up or the paper decides to go in another direction. God is with you always, and in all ways…Trust and believe!
