12 obituaries/classified ads january22 2013 In Memory of... Arlen E. Ulick ARLEN E. ULICK, 60, a resident of the Vernonia community, died Tuesday evening, January 8, 2013, at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro, OR. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. ARLEN ERNEST ULICK was born January 16, 1952 in Frederic, Wisconsin, the son of the late Adrian and Mary Ann (Nelson) Ulick. He was raised in the Frederic community having been a graduate from Frederic High School with the Class of 1970. Following high school, Arlen enlisted in the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam War as a military police officer. Arlen received the Purple Heart decoration for combat injuries received while helping his fellow soldiers. Arlen then returned to Frederic, where he served as a Deputy Sheriff in Polk County, Wisconsin. He also was a dairy farmer and drove a milk delivery truck. He was united in marriage to Jackie King on June 1, 1982. Arlen and Jackie celebrated over twenty seven years of marriage prior to Jackie’s passing in 2009. In 1993, Arlen moved to Vernonia, OR. He worked as a manager in electronics manufacturing for many years. Arlen met his future wife, Carren Gass in 2011. They were married on June 30, 2012 in Vernonia, OR. Following their marriage they resided in the Vernonia community. Arlen and Carren were to celebrate their first wedding anniversary this June. Arlen was a member of the Oregon Hunter’s Association being an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was also a card-carrying member of the Official Greenbay Packers Fan Club and enjoyed watching Wisconsin Badgers Football. Arlen was preceded in death by his parents Adrian and Mary Ann Ulick; his wife Jackie Ulick; and a stepdaughter, Tracy Winjum. He is survived by his wife, Carren Ulick of Vernonia, OR; his children, Glen Demar of Wisconsin, Tammy Demar, of Gaston, OR, Dawn Adamietz of Minnesota, and David Demar of Wisconsin; his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Christina Ulick of Keizer, OR and his sister Linda Carolan of Minnesota. (503) 693.7965 Gary James Davis Gary J. Davis, 61, a lifetime resident of the Vernonia community, died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Vernonia School Commons, 1000 Missouri Avenue in Vernonia, with Pastor John J. Cahill, of the Pioneer Baptist Church in Vernonia. Private Cremation Rites were held at the Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove, OR. Family and friends were invited to attend a reception immediately following the ceremony. Gary was born October 8, 1951 in Portland, OR, the son of Samuel Davis and the late Hilder (Sundquist) Davis. He was raised in Vernonia and graduated from Vernonia High School, Class of 1969. Upon his high school graduation he attended O.C.E., known today as Western Oregon State University, having received a B.A. degree in Education. He was united in marriage to Carol Lynn Cole on December 17, 1972 in Vernonia, OR. They celebrated their 40 th wedding anniversary this past December. Following their marriage they made their home in the Vernonia community. Gary worked in Log Marketing and Quality Control for Hancock Forest Management in Cathlamet, Washington. While raising his children, he was active in their youth sports programs, having coached t-ball, baseball and basketball. Gary was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved the outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking and his numerous remodeling projects. He enjoyed Beaver games with family and spending time on the farm with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hilder Davis. Survivors include his wife, Carol L. Davis, of Vernonia, OR; his father, Sam Davis, of Longview, WA; his son Erik Davis and girlfriend Jennelle Thompson, of Clatskanie, OR; his daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Corey Dinger, of McMinnville, OR; his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick and Elita Davis, of Clatskanie, OR; and Duane and Lana Davis, of Redmond, OR. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kaylee Emma and Kourtney Marie Dinger, Alleggra and Aydan Poetter as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
