She was born in Portland. She was adopted as a toddler by Gilbert and Jeanette Schmidtke of Albany. Julie attended both West and South Albany high schools before moving to Vernonia during her junior year. She graduated from Vernonia High School and lived in Vernonia for many years before moving to Clatskanie. During recent years she returned to Vernonia, where she lived until the time of her death. She held several jobs during her lifetime, including bartending, waitressing, clerking, senior care, and even owned a dog-grooming business at one time. Julie loved her boyfriend, Joe Fennell; her family; her friends; and her pets. She had a special place in her heart for her godson and nephew, Julian Bedolla; her nephew Jeffery Kitto; and her nieces Arcila Bedolla and Maya Moreno. She especially loved her dog Molly. She had a heart for animals, and couldn’t resist caring for lost or abandoned cats and dogs. She enjoyed spending time with those she loved, listening to classic rock, and she loved the outdoors. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed teasing her loved ones with her secret recipes. Julie is survived by her boyfriend, Joe; his daughters, Dakota and Makenna; her sisters, Della McQueen of Lebanon, Carol Groesbeck of Washington, and Janice Schmidtke, Bonnie Calkins, Marcia Schmidtke and Tracy Moreno, all of Albany; many nephews and nieces; her beloved Molly; and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Schmidtke; and her sister Deana Wyatt. Julie was a true friend and a wonderful sister. She will be missed by all who knew her.
