14 community news august14 2012 Church News and Events By Mark Brown Did you see it on the streets of Vernonia during Jamboree weekend? People everywhere, walking up and down the street, spending time with one another; young and old. Music was be- ing played, songs were sung, games were played. People have been looking forward to this all year and our commu- nity came alive. Some will look at it as a form of fellowship; others might not go that far. Some of the campers said they have been coming to this event for 5, 10, 20, and even 30 years. I always enjoy watching the dynamics of community during things like this. Whatever your opinion or posi- tion of this yearly event, I came away with some thoughts as I talked to God about it. It gave me a sense of sadness and joy. There is the obvious concern about influence on our kids as they wait and watch mom and or dad either be responsible in their behavior or not! I witnessed people gathering together, strangers and friends: Enjoying one an- others company. It struck me again how people will spend hours together in a common interest, yet to develop relationships within faithful community is still one of greatest challenges of our day. If wor- ship is defined, or at least can be mea- sured, by the amount of time we invest in a person or thing, it is no less worship. I want so much to understand this better from the community’s per- spective. Please speak your mind and hearts to me, that the faith based com- munity might learn from you. Use the web-site or e-mail. I will honor your Senior Center Activities trust if you do not want names given. I am asking for your help. ing 6:00PM Vacation Bible School: August 13-17th 6-8:30 PM.
