VHS Forestry Class Visits RSG Mill
The Vernonia High School
Forestry Class recently made a
field trip to the RSG—Olympic
Forest Products Mill near Mist,
OR.
According
to
class
instructor Byron Brown students
received a full tour of the mill,
were able to observe every phase
of how lumber is produced and ask
lots of questions. “The people at
RGS were just great to us,” said
Brown. “They had it all set up for
us to make it a really organized
tour.”
Students worked with the log scalers
and learned how to do that process. “We got
quite a bit of individual attention on that,”
said Brown. Students also spent time in the
VHS Equestrian Team District Report
The VHS Equestrian Team
recently competed in their final dis-
trict meet. “I was extremely pleased
with the team and proud of the out-
come,” said coach Diane Benes.
In the team events: the

McCord finished as follows: team

Team Penning event when the kids
just clicked and everything was
just ‘right,’” said Benes. “They
worked like clock-work getting
their horses into position to ma-
neuver the steers just where they
wanted them! They took 4th place!
That was a lot of fun!”

was started at the last meet of the
previous season and made such a hit
that it was continued at every meet
this season.

experience and I think everyone really got a
lot out of it.”
2012 Student “Summer
Fun Pass” Available
Columbia County Rider Transportation has
begun selling the 2012 Student Summer Fun Pass
for eligible students enrolled in Columbia County
Schools. The Pass is good in all zones and routes
and allows students the opportunity to travel locally
and regionally on the CCRider System.
The cost of the Pass is $45.00 and it is
valid from June 7th through September 4th, 2012
with the cost per month at the low rate of $15 per
month. To be eligible for the pass, the student must
be attending grades 1-12 in the upcoming school
year. Students under the age of 12 will require a
little extra paperwork in order to insure the safety of
those riders.
Those wishing to purchase the Pass can
