12 schools may8 2012 “Guys of VHS” Calendars Available The Vernonia High School Leadership Class has published a hot new calendar, featuring students from VHS. Titled “Guys of VHS” the calendar sells for $10 and is available at the VHS office and the “Made in Vernonia Store.” Get yours now! They’re HOT! PTA Press By Melissa Zavelas Boosters Buzz Vernonia Soccer Club--Challenger sports will be returning to Vernonia this year for soccer camp. Flyers and banners are being placed around town. Early sign up will get you some free gear. Don’t Forget...Boys Baseball will once again be selling fireworks for the 4 th of July as a fundraiser. Stop and pick up your things that go BOOM! and support local youth sports programs. Next Booster Meeting--May 9 th , 7:00 PM in the WGS Library. Medearis Takes 5 th in State Vernonia High School’s Jacob Medearis, a sophomore, placed 5th on trombone at the State Solo Contest on April 28 th at Lewis and Clark College in Portland. Medearis performed against 17 of the best trombonists in the entire state. Congratulations Jacob! Extra!! Extra!! Read All About It VHS Band It’s hard to believe that another school year has almost passed us by. New and exciting agendas are PTA’s cry. You can still participate, and help organize all these things on our plate. No more meetings this year, but please share your ideas for the next school year. We the PTA are extremely excited to announce the return of the fall carnival. We have been unable to host the carnival the last couple years due to low PTA membership, flooding, and lack of funds. We have had a great membership count this year, no flooding, and the ability to replenish our account to make the carnival possible again. We are hoping you are just as excited as us. With planning underway we could use input, donations, committee members, and help. Great ideas are in motion to make this Fall carnival the best ever yet! To start us off, we are going to bring back what used to be the silent auction. Instead of a silent auction we will be selling raffle tickets for 13 different themed baskets. Each class will be asked to participate in this basket collection. A list will be provided for your convenience with this article. Also we will be offering to students K-5 a chance to design a flyer for the carnival. Letters with information regarding this will be sent home very soon. We look forward to the summer, but we are all so very excited for a great school year of PTA 2012-2013.Thank you for all your continued support. The competition will be held on the campus of Oregon State University in Corvallis. The VHS Band qualified for the State Festival after winning their league competition earlier this year. Izzett has been preparing his students to perform three pieces of music that include an overture form a French opera, an Appalachian coral, and a three movement piece of Greek folk songs.
