community december13 2011 New TV Show Films in Portland 11 Local Actor Lands Role in Upcoming Episode “Remember the fairy tales your parents used to tell you before bedtime? Well, those weren’t stories, they were warnings.” That’s how NBC’s website describes their new television series Grimm, which airs on Friday nights at 9:00 PM. The drama series is a mix of fantasy/mystery/ crime that has been described as “a cop drama—with a twist... a dark and fantastical project about a world in which characters inspired by Grimms’ Fairy Tales ex- ist.” The series takes place in Portland and has been filmed in and around the city. An upcoming epi- sode, entitled Last Grimm Standing, was filmed on the outskirts of North Plains and features Vernonian Ron Wright as one of the characters—Clement, a Dark Rid- er. Wright, who appears in full make-up in the episode, has a prominent role and a few speaking lines and was on set for six days of filming. Wright grew up in Vernonia, studied acting in New York and has worked off-an-on as an actor and model for over thirty years. He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and landed this one--episode role this fall with the help of his agent. Wright was also re- cently seen in a General Electric television commer- cial. The Grimm episode starring Wright is #12 in the season and has not yet been scheduled to be aired, although Wright expects it to be tele- vised in late December or early Janu- ary 2012. Having a television series filmed in Portland has created jobs and work for actors and crew. Locals have been hired to provide costumes, makeup, art, sound, special effects, camera and electrical, visual effects, stunts, casting, construction, trans- portation and more. “The impact this has on the local economy is huge,” says Wright. “It has put a lot of people to work.” Wright says another television show, Vernonian Ron Wright will appear in an upcoming episode of Grimm.
