community november8 2011 Living On a Lake in the Country: Flowers ‘N Fluff By Gayle Rich-Boxman My Fishhawk Lake clients (who later become my neighbors) are always asking me about things you can do here at the lake besides all of the guess-what- I-got-to-do-this-morning-at-fishhawk- lake-something-most-don-t-get-to-do-” great nature-oriented opportunities we offer. One of my “finds” is an adorable and trendy shop in nearby Clatskanie, called Flowers ‘N Fluff...gotta love that name, right off the bat, huh? Owned by Sherri Lumjarvi, a cool, wild-haired rocker-chick lookin’ gal, whose personality is all over this place. I t ’ s almost like three shops in one. It’s got a coffee house and sit down area. Go through the french doors and you enter this upscale retail shop. Then outdoors is a contained garden area with cool or kitchy garden art, pots of all colors and sizes as well as flowering plants, small trees, and ferns and other perennial greeneries. The choices range from interesting kitchen and home decor, to jewelry with glam appeal as well as artsy accessories, to a wide selection of cards and some really fun eyeglasses for those of us who need “cheaters”, but are aiming for fashion AND function. Or maybe you’re looking for some sunglasses that look like Dior without the price tag! Sherri’s taste and style shine in the way she displays items and the great and varied selection of gift ideas she has chosen. There is always something unusual for that someone special or just for yourself!!! 11 candles; there are a myriad of choices and making the decision as to what NOT to buy may be your hardest decision! For store hours or information, you can contact Sherri at: clatskanieflowersnfluff@gmail.com or call (503) 728-4222. Tell Sherri that the Resident Realtor at Fishhawk Lake sent you! We are doing everything we can to communicate with the City of Mosier, public safety officials and the public about what we are planning and our goals.” “We really think planning a 7-day camp and leaving open the chance that it moves to another nearby town is a good way to spread awareness about issues such as reducing excessive corporate power,” says ten- year Mosier resident Daniel Dancer. “But when you know most of the people in town overstaying your welcome isn’t about irritating public officials its about irritating your friends and neighbors.” Jessica Campbell with the Rural Organizing Project which is working with a number of rural communities across Oregon who are involved with support actions around the Occupy Wall Street protests says the Occupy Mosier camp is nationally unique. “Oregon has more rural communities involved in Occupy related actions than any other state, but the Occupy Mosier camp is really unique,” explains Campbell. “We don’t think there is any smaller U.S. town with an Occupy camp like what is being planned here.” Bo Vanderkloot lives across the Columbia River from Mosier in Bingen, Washington is a single father motivated to join the Occupy Mosier camp because of his banks refusal to re-finance his home loan following his divorce. Vanderkloot says “When the bank told me I was going to lose the home my son was born in, it was a real motivator to get involved,” Sick or Cranky Firearm? I Can Help! While Mosier will serve as a base camp, activities are being planned throughout the Gorge from November 4th -11th such as the “Break Up With Your Bank” event at The Dalles Bank of America on Saturday November 5th at 11:00 AM where people will be closing their accounts at Bank of America. Multiple speakers, workshops and movies are being planned in Mosier on a range of issues from reining in corporate control over U.S. politics and shrinking an oversized military budget to supporting local credit unions, fighting plans to ship coal through the Columbia Gorge to China, and addressing wage inequality and related issues. “If we can organize an Occupy event in Mosier, OR than anyone in any community can be a part of this movement,” says Lahr.
