BRAD BENTON was born November 26, 1948 in Greeley, Kenny and Penny Smejkal celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party given by their three girls, Susan Brill, Cindy Smejkal and Sharon Bernal on Sunday July 17th at the Vernonia Scout Cabin with their close friends and family. With over 120 in attendance they enjoyed the afternoon visiting and reliving many great stories of their 50 years together with their guests. Welcome to the World... (503)-357-2161 NORMA L. TIPTON Colorado, the son of Bud Elmgreen and Mary Evelyn (Markley) Elmgreen. He was raised and received his education in Evergreen, Colorado. Following his high school graduation he attended the Colorado School of Mines in Boulder, Colorado, having received a Bachelor degree. He was united in marriage to Desiree A. Rinzler on August 30, 1975 in Palos Verdes, California. They celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this past August. Following their marriage they lived all over the country until 1989 when they moved to Washington, settling in the Richland community. They lived in Richland for seventeen years, until 2005, when they moved to their present home in St. Helens, where they have resided since. Brad had worked at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Richland, Washington, for seventeen years. In 2005, they moved to their present home in the St. Helen’s community, where he had resided since. He had worked for Intel, Corp. in Aloha for five years, until he retired in June of 2011. He was a member of the I-MAC (Inter Mountain Alpine Club) in Richland, Washington. Among his special interests he had a special love for the outdoors, especially hiking, backpacking, motorcycle riding, snow skiing, and visiting the Oregon coast. Brad was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Evelyn Elmgreen and by his sister, Pat Soule. Survivors include his wife, Desiree Benton; his father, Bud Elmgreen, of Evergreen, Colorado; his daughter, Deidre Benton, of Hillsboro, Oregon; his son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Cindy Benton, of Hillsboro, Oregon and his brother, Ken Elmgreen, of Evergreen, Colorado. Tipton, 75, a resident of the Beaverton community, died Thursday morning, July 21, 2011 at Marquis Care at Autumn Hills in Beaverton, Oregon. Graveside Services were held on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Mt. View Memorial Gardens, 499 Watercrest Road in Forest Grove, with Helen Matzke, funeral celebrant, officiating. Concluding Rites and Interment followed at the cemetery. NORMA LEE TIPTON was born April 19, 1936 in Brownwood, Texas, the daughter of the late Red McWhorter and Anna Lee (Horton) McWorter. She was raised and received her education in the Brownwood community. She was united in marriage to Jerry Wayne Tipton on September 28, 1973 in Vancouver, Washington. Following their marriage they resided in Tigard, Oregon, until 1981 when they moved to the Hillsboro community. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, on June 4, 2001 in Brownwood, Texas, while on vacation, after celebrating over twenty-seven years of marriage together. She continued living in the Hillsboro community, until 1995, when she moved to Marquis Care at Autumn Hills in Beaverton, where she had been a guest resident since. Norma had worked as a purchasing agent for Fujitsu in Hillsboro for thirteen years, until ill health forced her to retire at the age of sixty-two years old. Among her special interests she enjoyed crocheting, bicycling, collectables and gardening. Norma also loved listening to her favorite music and caring for her dog, “Fifer”. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo James Goss and Anna Lee (Horton) Goss; her brother, James Elmer McWhorter and her sister, Verna May Casper. Survivors include her four sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Linda Aaron, of Springfield, Missouri; and Grand Children: Keegan Jones (his wife Audra), Darcy Jones, Teri Jacques, Traci Davies, Jerry Dean and Tina Aaron, of Brownwood, TX; Michael and Kim Aaron, and Tatem Gray Richey of Buxton, OR; and Danny M. and Sharon Aaron, of Beaverton, OR; her stepdaughter, Connie Tipton, of California; and her brother, Lynn and Sandy Goss, of LaGrande, OR. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Alston’s Corner Assembly of God Church, 25272 Alston Road in Rainier, Oregon, with the Reverend Steve Berry, pastor of the church, officiating. Private Cremation Rites were held at the Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove, Oregon. Family and friends were invited to attend a reception immediately following the church ceremony, held at the home of Stuart and Kathleen Potter, 75439 Clatskanie Valley Road in Clatskanie, Oregon.
